"Am I not an enemy?" The exceed asked, his voice turning lower and softer, although retaining all of his solemnity. "How can you be so sure?" As he spoke, gleaming crimson characters began to manifest all across his body, adopting a stripe-like pattern on his fur. The words '激怒' glowed menacingly across his body, as tit began infusing the exceed with great magical power.

"Fight!" Koji shouted again, trying to rake his deadly claws across Orion's face. "Or do you dare defy your master?"

Koji's gaze remained directed away from Cheshire at her questioning. He did make a bittersweet smile, however.

"For most of our lives, my brother and I struggled for survival. Fighting for scraps and thieving to eat. Running away from beasts and humans alike. We slept under trees and on the streets." He provided, closing his eye as memories flashed across his mind. "Then we met someone with a heart pure enough to take two lost souls in. She told us of a time where the world was not in turmoil. Before the Calamity." Koji would never forget her words as she had painted a splendour of the cities long-since lost in an unforgiving world.

"But I digress." He sighed and raised his eye to meet Cheshire's gaze. "Cait Shelter was never a conscious decision. Our main ambition was to pay forward the favour to other lost souls. We help those to need it, by offering food, medicine, and refuge." He gestured vaguely to the surroundings, the mismatched furniture, soft cushions, rugs, and books by the crackling fireplace.

"Overtime, the people we helped decided to make their stay permanent, and we began to label ourselves as a guild."

"I would be lying if I said it was easy. But I have little regrets."

A frown itched itself onto Koji's face as his brother – or the stranger who inhabited it – offered little to assuage his concerns.

At length the grave was competed. Koji remained outside staring at the hole whilst Topax retrieved the body and placed it into the grave.

For once Koji was the follower rather than the leader of the two brothers. Refilling the grave took considerably less time than making it. It was very crude. The woman did not even have a coffin. But it was a grave none the less.

Taking a few steps back, the exceed extended his arms, closed his eye, and summoned his magical power.

Stone.

The Solid Script word appeared before him. Methodically, Koji plucked the 't' and drove it into the top of the grave, where it stood like a crude cross of a headstone.

"Rest in peace."

It was startling to see a stranger inhabit his brother's body. Koji opened his mouth to inquire further. Then closed it. There was a moment of hesitation, then the elder brother released his grip on the… stranger. His enigmatic words did not assuage Koji's concern, but it did provide an answer in some twisted way.

"Is he safe? Will he return?" Koji pried, concern for his brother overriding all else including the fact that this stranger was ostensibly the 'shattered pieces' of Topaz.

Then, Koji found himself beside the strange felid and unsheathed his claws from their slits in his sleeves. Seeing no reason as to not, he began digging as well. If anything, perhaps hastening the task would bring the return of Topaz sooner.

If hit by attacks, it glows crimson and generates a concussive force that reflects back intense magical energy towards the opponent. The size and shape of this word can be adjusted depending on the incoming attacks.

"Not a huge fan of change? Only when it causes harm and distress." Koji offered a bitter smile. "And it does, more often and not. Hence why I err on the side of caution." Indeed founding the guild was a welcome change. The alterations which his brother had suffered afterwards – less so. His memory flashed with a monstrous transformation of Topaz before Koji blinked away the thought.

Something positive at least entered their conversation then, as Cheshire confirmed that her departure was a success, or at least, proving out to be. "It pleases me to know."

When Cheshire rose from her chair, Koji half expected that to be the end of their brief chat and for the woman to leave. It seemed that there was little else he could have offered her. That was, until she sauntered across to grab a makeshift tool to stabilise the rickety table. A smile cracked across Koji's face at this.

It was pleasant to know that the mage was not a total stranger. The sliver of familiarity at which she exhibited contented him. Thus, it was with all sincerity in which he said:

"I never wanted to doubt you. But a parent always worries when a child leaves the nest." Looking down, Koji unfurled a sleeve-covered paw to reveal a Solid Script word hovering inside his palm.

The characters 変化する floated in a deep ethereal glow, illuminating the faces of both those present. As he watched, the word would ripple like waves on the surface of a pond, morphing into a variety of sizes and shimmering in different colours. All the while, despite the transformations, the characters remained recognisable.

"It was nice to see you again." Koji said quietly.
