Shades of emerald swamped this entire area, overgrown plants that have reclaimed this area as there own. Collapsed buildings stay somewhat held up by the ever growing vines, and trees sprout from the fallen remains of ancient ruins. It's truly a beautiful place to see nature at its strongest here, simply returning balance to the world.
'Is that why my brother chose to die here?' Sovereign pondered on the thought, thinking of how William almost knew he'd lose the battle. It angered him, wondering if his older brother even tried to put up a fight or if he simply dragged out the inevitable. All Sovereign wanted was some answers, to ask a few questions about his brother's final hour before the leader of Cait Shelter took his life. They owed him that much, but still, he couldn't be angry at Koji. He couldn't be infuriated by William's death.
But yet, he was.

Koji was perched upon the cracked roof of a dilapidated house, jutting diagonally out from the ground, his twin tails lashing from side to side behind him. In one paw, he held his trusty katana, although it remained sheathed for the time being. A rendezvous with the enemy guild had been organised. But although the decision had been mutual, Koji did not trust William's younger brother any more than he could throw him.
It was not long before the exceed caught sight of the tell-tale figure of Sovereign. Despite himself, a shiver coursed down Koji's spine. It was eerie how similar the brothers looked. Had he not known better, he would've mistaken the stranger for his late brother.
"Pale." He stated in greeting, tone carefully kept neutral.

The cat was doing what it did best, lounging around high up on a rooftop somewhere. Did it not wish to come down and shake Sovereign's hand, no? Pity, he thought, though still smiling and spreading his arms out as if showing he meant no harm.
"Ah, Koji!" Standing up on his feet, he'd ow slightly before walking a little towards him. Thankfully the building he was on wasn't too high at all, and they could still see and hear each other perfectly clearly. Perhaps it was for the best there was some distance between them, after all, he had the strength to kill William.
"It's so lovely to see you, how have you been?" Sov began, simply engaging in small talk with manners and politeness. But those well accustomed well with manipulators and liars would have an inkling this was all a farce, simply ignoring the important topic at hand. But where would Sovereign's manners be if he dived right into the questions about his dead brother?

Affably evil. That's what Koji perceived this newcomer as. The way he smiled and spoke so charismatically sent made the fur on Koji's back bristle. Although he did not voice his distaste, he do not try to hide it either, gazing coolly downwards at the manlet.
"Surviving." The Exceed responded simply, drumming his claws across the hilt of his katana. "I suppose it must've have been easy, being a guild master. Take it from one guild master to another: it's a lot of responsibility." His solitary crimson eye flashed as he stressed the final word.

Ah, so that's the kind of character this Koji seems to be. Someone who appears to just focus on survival, and acting far too serious and on guard. Maybe it was his older age, or maybe he was just quite a grumpy person. Either way, Sovereign thinks he needs to loosen up a bit.
Waving a hand in dismissal to what the cat said, he simply smiled even more, "Responsibility of my members I can handle. It's other people that is beyond my control."
By that, he meant outsiders. Other guilds and territories that had differing opinions and views on him and his hellhounds. Perhaps it was nice to begin leading his guild the way it is, since everyone was slightly fearful of their reckless and unpredictable behaviour. It meant people would leave him alone, or so he liked to hope. But Sovereign didn't want to be feared like that, he wanted people to see that his guild could be trusted. He would help the community, and he expected them to do the same.
"I suppose my brother would have known a lot about responsibility as well. After all, he died for Quatro Cerberus." Sovereign cracked his neck, "Would you have done the same?"
He paused for a moment, letting the words settle in as wind blew through the area. His clothes were swept up, flapping in the wind as a few leaves tumbled past. Hinting at Koji dying for his people sounded threatening, but it was hard to tell when Sovereign had a such a wide smile plastered on his face.
"Aha, I only jest." Sovereign then waved his hand, "Come now, why not stand on the ground with me. Or is it in your feline instincts to perch atop buildings and trees?"

"Sure you can." Koji muttered dryly in response to the man's boast in regard to being able to handle his own members. He supposed that it was possible, but given the previous master's complete lack of control over its mindless criminals.
"Of course. Any parent would willingly die for their children." His eye narrowed ever so slightly, the faintest hints of paranoia beginning to settle in. Was this a veiled threat that such an event was to occur? Did William's brother intend to push Koji to the very limits?
His cavalier attitude irritated the solemn feline to no end and his grip on his katana tightened. "Are you here just to throw insults or did you have a purpose to this meeting?"

Well, there really was no joking around with this one. Sovereign should know better than to tease a frightened cat, lest he suffer the same quick end as his brother. Still maintaining the smile that never seemed to fade, he decided to no longer stand with his neck craned up, so he perched at the edge of the base of a broken statue. Nobody seemed to have faith in Sovereign that he could run a guild, not even his members did. But he would change that all, and teach them not to underestimate the 'pup' of Quatro Cerberus.
"I suppose I'm yet to discover that feeling of martyrdom." he said drily, rubbing a bit of dirt from his gloves.
Raising an eyebrow under his mask, he glanced up at Koji who didn't like his little jokes one bit. Was he really so frightened and cautious that he'd engage in combat? Sovereign did not take himself for an intimidating person, he was so young and innocent after all. But still, his words and actions still seeped enough threat to make Koji grip his weapon.
"Oh, where are my manners. I'm only making light of the situation. We're standing in my dead brother's grave after all. Not the most pleasant of places," he giggled, knocking his head back and swinging his legs. "Truth be told, I was simply curious about what happened here. You battled, no? I merely wish to know the details of his final hours." "I would have asked him myself but... You killed him." he chirped, not a hint of disdain or sadness in his voice.

A Pale Grave [Social | Closed]

Koji watched silently as the man made himself comfortable at the base of a statue, taking in his words with a grain of salt. There were a multitude of responses he could have flung back. Yes. I did kill William. And I do it again without hesitation. Mighty arrogant of you to claim the entire town to be a grave. But doing so would provoke the human, and as satisfying as it would have been to wipe that smug smile off his face, the last this Koji needed was another fight. Instead, he stuck to the fact.
"We fought, yes." I won't speak on how the battle was of epic proportions to be retold by generations to come. "There was a killer who needed to be stopped, lest innocents die. I stopped him." His tails swing languidly behind him as he spoke, his tone dry yet soft.

Honestly, he was expecting something a little more exciting. Maybe it was the tension, or maybe Koji was just a dry, expressionless puss. Either way, it left Sovereign feeling a little excluded. He simply frowned, which was odd after seeing him smile so much.
"No cool fight? No 'famous last words' moment?" He sighed, "Shame, I was hoping you wouldn't shy away from the details."
He thought back to when he heard the news of his brothers death, he had been out on a mission in a far away town and wasn't able to retrieve the body himself. Although saddened at the time, he simply knew it would have happened eventually.
"Y'know, William's death has upset quite a lot of people back at Quatro Cerberus. Not all have taken it as well as I have." Sovereign started throwing veiled threats once more, "He touched the hearts of many. Many who would have died for him."

"I'd rather not antagonise his remaining kin." Koji remarked, traces of irritation lancing across his face. "The last thing I need is another fight."
"I regret that his death upset your guildmates." He added, quite truthfully. After all, his intention was simply to end a madman and to cease the suffering he unleashed onto others. "Many would have died for him. Many would have died from him." He transfixed a hard gaze onto the masked individual. Koji could not help but perceive this is no more than a petulant child, their perception of the world so severely warped to serve their own conscience. Their naivety was pity, but alas, it was not Koji's job to educate him on the realities of the world.
"Do you deny that he caused many unnecessary deaths?"

"I guess I should thank you then, for putting an end to a mindless murderer." Sovereign nodded his head slightly, "He was simply someone who had lost his mind, I see that you did what needed to be done."
Despite all his other jokes and digs, what Sovereign said just now was true and he really meant it. William was getting out of control, beyond the point of no return. Nobody in the guild had the guts to do anything about it, but Koji did. Koji took it upon himself to straighten out the leader of another guild entirely.
"He killed people, but they might not have been unnecessary. William always said it was for the betterment of the world," He scoffed, "But even I know he had no real proof or claims against these people. Now, the guild is a mess, no point in hiding that fact. But I do hope you trust me to correct it.
"Do you know of the work that Quatro Cerberus once did, before all the criminals and corrupt?"

For the first time, Koji was at a loss for words. Baffled by the fact that Sovereign had accepted his words at face value, the exceed initially interpreted it as sarcasm. His ears flopped slightly to the side as he tilted his head, staring at the youth with grudging respect.
"I hope you do correct it." He echoed softly. "I do not want us to be at odds when we already have our trouble surviving."
Despite himself, Koji leaned forward, balancing precariously at the edge of the rooftop as Soveriegn asked him of his knowledge of Quatro Cerberus.
"No. Do enlighten me."

Sovereign did often forget that everyone in this world was simply just trying to survive, and most people had awful lives growing up and simply living. Society was a mess, but a mess that was under some kind of recovery and control thanks to guilds, and everyone was going through the same shit everyday. Maybe it was his view on the world that surprised him when people stepped in to 'do the right thing'. After all, resources were limited, and so was time. But Koji still decided to fight William as he was simply out of control. But he wasn't always like that.
"My family had seen the dangers of magic, even after many years from the calamity, it still poses a threat even if it isn't at its peak. William wanted to make sure that magic stayed under control, for although it served us well, it was simply too dangerous. Most issues are caused by it, that's something I'm sure we can all agree on."
Sovereign stood up again, taking a few steps towards the building Koji was sat on. "We started off giving people a place separate from that world, people who feared magic and its dangers. We then helped the regulation of magical artefacts that were being dug up from the old world, items that were too dangerous in such a weakened society, it was too early to re-introduce certain things for now. Even people, some are unlucky enough to be cursed with magic beyond their control, thus, they must be watched."

Koji listened silently as the young Cerberus explained their history, his eyes following the man as he advanced closer.
"Noble ideals." Koji praised, with a hint of reluctance. "But what made you think you were qualified?" It was not another jibe at William's eventual incompetence, but was a genuine question. "It is not so simple to control magic." At this, the exceed's voice took on an air of reverence.
"Magic is spirit. Control someone's magic and you control their being." He let out a low sigh, curling his tails around his legs and loosening his grip on his katana. "That was William's mistake. You cannot control people. Only guide them."
"And what of magic items? Did you have a safe to contain them? So much magic concentrated in one area… that's an accident waiting to happen."

Somehow, he had a feeling Koji would say something like that. Not everyone viewed Quatro Cerberus' original ideals the same way as Sovereign, but that could be said for anything. Despite that, he still stuck by what he and his brother believes in.
"We took precautions." He said calmly, "Perhaps that's why William chose not to control people or their spirit, but rather, dispose of them completely. It did the job, but was also totally wrong of him."
Despite saying those words, Sovereign somewhat agreed, but he wishes to change the way it was done somewhat. Surely not all dangers in the world should be completely destroyed? Maybe that's where his downfall would be.
"We had items under lockdown, but when William became a little... Too concerned, he destroyed them all completely. We no longer possess such artefacts." Sovereign was telling Koji this information in confidence, because he wanted to be trusted by this other guild master. He was not like his brother, and he hoped Koji would realise that. At least, Sovereign liked to think that anyway, it was evident there were similarities between Sov and Will, not just in appearance but in their view of the world as well.
"I plan on doing things differently. Safely. I want to help my guild members stray away from the path of crime they have taken, and instead put their skills to good use. Certain magic is dangerous in the wrong hands."
