He could see in here? Good. She could make out a few things as well, but her eyes were a bit inadequate for any thorough investigations. The meagre amounts of light coming in were useful to some extent, but not good enough to instil much confidence. Him being able to see well was good enough. He was the one who dealt with potential threats, she would deal with the fallout. The first of them was not very dangerous. At least not this time around. She had encountered clearly moving skeletons in the past, which had tried to kill her. Fortunately, without success.
“There is magic that can animate these. I faced it before.” She disclosed that immediately. It was not exactly a secret, just a little investigation she had done with another member not too long ago. This incident did not feel that way, though. This skeleton was less humanoid, and it did not appear ready to move. “I know a thing or two about anatomy. Not much about artificial limbs. But they are usually connected pretty tightly. If they are easy to take off, they are also easy to fall off. If someone took it in his sleep, it must have been something intelligent, not a beast. Though, it does not have to be the one that is now dead. Could be thing that made it dead, too.”

Yeah. Nat punched the girl. Like, right after she suddenly sprung into motion. Or she tried to at least. Not even because she was mad or anything like that, no. Far from that. It was just her being surprised for one. And yes, that was about being surprised, not scared. No one could tell her otherwise.
Anyway. It was also because she had learned that injured people, especially those who had lost consciousness, sometimes ended up getting violent when they got back. Best to just deck them immediately. A punch to the head could not possibly make an axe to the side any worse. And besides, there was no injury. So, she was a hundred percent justified in anything she had done. There would be no embarrassment or anything like that as she got up from her half-crouching position and pouted.
“That is something you should not joke about,” she noted, hypocritically. If she was in a position to play such a joke without repercussions, she would probably do it. But she was not, so she had not (yet). And that meant she was justified in any of that. “I will just not bother to try and heal you until you bleed for me, then,” she added. And yes, all of that would happen, whether or not her punch connected. Which she did not acknowledge in the slightest.

An assassin? If her coat allowed it, Nat’s ears would have perked up on that notion. It wasn’t as much about the profession itself, though. It was one like any other in many ways. Assassins were deadly, yes. But so were fighters. At the very least, the former seldom took action without being prompted. Or, realistically, without being paid to do so. Maybe that was her own mindset talking, but she quite believed that no one wanted her dead enough to hire one of those. One of the reasons why she tended to make sure to not make many enemies.
This person was very much included. “I can’t say I expected that,” she would reply and mean it. Certainly, she had not expected the other to be so candid about it. Usually, assassins did not go about their work telling everyone that they were assassins. Even disclosing it to a random person like this was probably be a bad idea. Yet, the girl had done so, for reasons unsaid. Natalie was not sure what to think of that, but she also did not want to dwell on it. There was a poignant pause in how the other had broached the subject, meaning that she did expect at least some comment in that regard. Thus, Nat briefly coughed, collecting her thoughts. “But that sounds good. You seem to have the skills we need if we run into any trouble. And…Assassins, I have no real opinion. People should do what they are good at and if you like that, then it is what it is. There is no shortage of other people who would pick those jobs. I don’t think I could make any call on that.”

While Natalie would not be quick to believe that kind of story. She would not completely discard it outright either, though. Helping with the basics would not be free, sure, but Nat does believe in wagering favours. Given that she is always looking for people to team up with, I am sure they can hash something out icly.

She ducked behind him, just in case. The bats were not threatening and did not try to attack. But she had not waited to confirm that. It did not take a lot of effort to hide behind that animalistic frame. If those things were dangerous, she could avoid them so. If not, she had not wasted much. A healer’s duty was to stay out of danger as much as possible while also being in range of those that needed her help. This was how she went about that.
“Good thing they did not want to bite us.” Natalie certainly meant that. Bats were horrible to fight, both in small and in large numbers. They could not be the culprits behind the disappeared leg, however. Too small and too many. The boy would have been bitten in other places if they had somehow taken off his leg. Among other things, actually. Following him still, the healer rubbed her chin. “I have seen a good number of injured people. But that boy had been in pristine condition. Well, as far as pristine goes these days. But if he had lost this in some sort of fight, wouldn’t he have had more injuries? There were those marks, hm…” She thought about it some more. Those markings had looked deliberate at first glance, but she could still be wrong in that regard.
No use, she could not say anything definitive. Hence, she rather said nothing. Instead, she focused on their immediate surroundings, wary of potential dangers. It got harder, however, due to the light diminishing the further they got inside. If she’d known they would go spelunking, she would have brought something herself. “Do you happen to have a light, or can you just see better in here?”

Children were the hardest people to deal with in some regards. Nat was a rather selfish person, but she wasn’t some kind of monster. She really did not want to work pro bono, but just ignoring an injured (?) child? That was also not good. Fortunately, an excuse was given by the big Bandit, who just decided there would be a reward. That meant integrity maintained, even if there was nothing. And she could get angry for a reason then, too.
Natalie briefly gave the boy a brief, court bow before catching up to her partner. “I guess we are having a detour” she stated the obvious, curiously eyeing the cavern entrance. It was an odd arrangement. The boy had managed to lose his leg in there somehow, but gotten outside? That did not seem too likely. The appendages he had seemed artificial. But how did one flat out lose a leg, regardless? That was not the kind of thing that could just slip one’s mind. “What do you think are the chances of meeting some kind of beast in there? He can’t have lost that voluntarily, so please be careful.” Her voice remained calm and gentle, indicating that she truly meant it. In a way, she even did. Having to heal truly dire wounds would be quite bothersome and painful. Not for her, but still.

“Huh?” Natalie blinked, confused, when something moved very swiftly, very suddenly in front of her. Fortunately, she was not a defensively inclined person. In that case, this would have been abject failure. It wasn’t her job to keep people from being hurt though, just to take care of them afterwards. That was exactly what she would be doing immediately, though. As a healer, she was used to seeing people hurt, naturally, though death had been a rarity. Still, her stomach and nerves were strong enough to not soil herself and paralyze in fear.
Instead, Natalie surged forward. Not triggering any traps herself more by happenstance than skill, she closed the distance quickly. There was a certain haste to her motions, but not a frantic one. “Well, if the shock didn’t kill you, I should have time,” she noted, the analytical part of her mind taking over. She could worry later. She could be afraid or think of the ramifications of a guild mate dying later. This was what she’d trained for. Quickly making a decision, she’d reach for the girl’s body with one hand and for the axe’s handle with the other, seeking to first remove it, then burn what she could.
Most likely though, one hand would find nothing, while the other would have a far too easy job removing the axe bloodlessly, prompting another, confused “Huh?” from her.

Notorious B.I.G. Oh, I have no preference. Natalie is happy to go anywhere. Travelling is usually the fun part, after all. Towns are often kind of depressing and boring.

Notorious B.I.G. While Natalie would be a bit put off if he fashioned a weapon out of something he hunted during travels, she is the kind of person to be pragmatic about these sorts of things. As long as he doesn't complain about her style of healing, she will gladly supply him with it. Making friends with defensive types is always important, after all.

Her plan was met with the usual enthusiasm. That was great. The other went out of her way to pick up the armor pieces herself, sparing Nat the bother of having to touch these things. Maybe that made her a bit more of a snob or something, but these things were just icky. Anything that moved in unnatural ways like this was probably better left untouched. In her opinion at least. The smug little explorer seemed to have other priorities. But that was fine. In fact, it played neatly into her own plans, so she had absolutely no issue with it.
Instead, she just followed along like the good little healer she was, trying to be the more careful one. She might have even noticed the markings on the floor in order to save her partner. However, said partner then made her look at the candles instead, raising a certain point. But that only added another one to her mind. Hence, Natalie thought about that, instead of paying proper attention. “It’s not just the light if you ask me,” she started, once more mulling this over. From the looks of it, these candles themselves were neither magical nor electric. Not that anyone could afford the latter in a derelict building to begin with. “These candles can’t have been lit for too long. I don’t think that this kind could last for more than a week of continuous use. They don’t really look close to giving out, either.”

Kas. She would have to make sure to not confuse that with Cassie, for she knew someone of that name. It would be a bit rude. Not to any meaningful degree, but she tried to always be very polite in all her interactions. More often than not, it made others more at ease around her. Which was probably good, given that she would rely on this woman for protection.
Not that they would need a lot of it. As far as they knew, the only hostile elements here were, well, the elements. If they just watched their steps and acted carefully, it would probably be fine. The real difficulty would come from reaching the target within a time limit they did not even know. Maybe it was already too late. Maybe the young man was fine and would return on his own anyway. It was all possible, but no one was willing to take risks here.
They would head out into the rain, Nat huddling a bit under the umbrella as well. She was not invading personal space or anything, but if it was wide enough, she would like to have a bit less drizzle upon her coat. It would keep her somewhat dry underneath, but she liked to be extra safe. “Hmm, I guess you mean taking on random missions? For a few years now. Ever since I left home I get by doing this. It’s something I am somewhat good at, so I like to help others when I can.” Okay, not the full truth but close enough. “What about you, Kas? Oh and what exactly do you do? In my experience, a bit of information sharing helps. I do understand if you want to keep it a secret, though. Many mages are like that. I just advertise being a healer because it feels prudent to let others know beforehand.”

Her reasoning seemed to be shared by the more active magus. As Nat remained somewhat impassive and observant, her partner went about looking through stuff to find something. It was not immediately apparent what that was, so it was probably best not to intervene. All that she could immediately grasp was that Harle was making a mess there. But, given the pile of bones outside and the pile of armor parts in here, that seemed to be a natural result of her being somewhere. Okay, technically it had been her who had toppled over the still twitching armors. But it had been the other who had refused to clean up (speak take care of the spell). So, it still counted.
The more abrasive strategy bore fruit, however. Eventually, Harle found the book that she was looking for, unearthing a hiding mechanism in the process. “Wonderful. I am glad to have someone who is so good at my side in this.” Stroking that ego was potentially dangerous. The risk seemed worth it though, in the hopes of getting the other to continue down on her path of progress. “There will probably be more traps ahead, though. But….” She paused briefly, thinking. “Whoever made this probably did not ensure that his own creations do not trigger them.” She would walk over to the table and swipe the old, partially rotten cloth. It certainly had gaps, but was still usable for her purposes. Briefly folding it into a makeshift bag, she would hand it to the other. “We could take some twitching parts with us and use them to trigger things.”

Her earlier assessment seemed to be validated. The man was certainly an optimist. His logic did make sense, of course. If one compared a situation with no healer and one with her as the healer, she would be preferable to many. But when she had to compete with others of her profession? Not so much. It was probably best to just let this rest though, so she would give him another faint smile. He was giving her more beer. That was all that really mattered. “As for the pain? I guess that just comes naturally. I channel starlight to purify others of their ailments, or to cauterize and energize wounds. Someone much smarter than me once explained to me that it first burns out everything bad and then forces the body to regenerate. Or something, I really did not follow completely. In the end, if you are hurt I can lay my hand upon you and the wound will go away. It just will hurt quite a bit.”
She shrugged. Science was not her strong suit. That magic was something she understood more on an instinctual level than an empiric one. “It’s worth it to me, at least.”

Natalie did not think it a good idea to play with something animated by a hostile spell, so she kept her distance. The disembodied parts did not seem to pose much of a threat, but when magic was involved that could change quickly. Taking it as casually as the other was not an option to her. But she tried not to make a fuss, even when it was pushed towards her. “No fancy schools, no,” she replied, even as she took a closer look at that thing. Her parents had not really been able to afford that. She’d try anyway. However, she did not think fast, but instead take a moment to take in what she saw there. “It was painted on there. That means whoever did this probably did make those suits themselves or had them made specifically. Maybe the enchantments were not made by whoever owned this place initially?”
It really was just a guess. But that would make sense. These things were a bit haphazard and disconnected. They did not feel like a proper security system. But why were they there, then? It was all a bit mysterious, really. Natalie rubbed her chin, trying to make sense of this. She was very much engrossed in this, but sadly, that did not mean that she gained any particular insights about all of this in the process. “Hmm….maybe someone came in here after the fact? A squatter or a thief?” It was a bit absent-minded that she just espoused that, but that was just how she’d sometimes get in situations like this.

The rain truly made it easy sometimes. Natalie, too, did not have a hard time identifying her would-be partner, even before that person turned towards her. There were not many people out in this weather. At least none would go out without a good reason. Meeting up with someone so that they could go and search for a lost person was probably one of them. A young woman with an umbrella approached Nat and a mutual evaluation ensued. This one had an odd hair colour that matched her eyes. The expression seemed somewhat neutral and she did not use a lot of words. Instead, the stranger went straight for the business and introduced herself.
“Natalie Chevalier, but Nat is fine.” A hand was offered for a brief shake as she got up. There really was no more point in sitting down and resting. It likely did not matter at all how quickly they got to work. But there was a slim chance that their tardiness could fail the mission. Hence, there was no point in dallying around. Whether or not her hand was shook, Natalie would motion towards the street and start moving. “I am here to assist you. Or you to guard me, whichever you prefer,” the blonde added, calmly and gently, though her strides had purpose. “I am a healer, so I will take care of the missing person if he is injured. And if you have any injuries along the way. However, I fear that I will be rather useless otherwise.” On her way off the premises, Natalie would grab her staff and bag, lightly packed so they could move easily. “Shall we do the rest of the talking on the way, or do you have any preparations to make? I don’t wish to rush you, the client just said we should depart as soon as possible.”
