Within a seemingly demoing cluster of bog plants lazed an egg with an eggshell complexion. It was decorated with large swifts of fervid red, stripes of black and unwittingly braved the shadow waters ever-so gently submersing, bosoming its lower half. The reasoning behind it having found its inundating bedding? Inexistent; but, it was not fated to remain in its quaggy abode. A pair of yokelish avian creatures swam too near and brushed the mysterious egg free of its short-live residence. Free from the marsh’s sedgy clutch, it drifted about until it entered a river.
[break][break]
Danger lurked ahead. The steadily growing celerity of the encompassing currents proved as evidence and even more-so, the approaching dropoff. It bore the totality of the blame for the water’s turbulent temper and in an unmerciful fit of malice, the stream tossed the egg into the air. Below awaited a collection of large stones bathing in the mists the waterfall birthed through its ceaseless pummel.
[break][break]
As if sent by an all-permeating and powerful forcing, a large-winged beast swept in. It was not its intention to have the egg catch its neck and roll down its back. In fact, it’s intention was to relieve an intense urge to defecate within soon-to-be no-longer pristine waters within the waterfall’s base. As it landed at the water’s edge, the egg rolled down its treetrunk-like tail and plunged into the water. The current took it into a river where, finally, it was pushed up onto a piece of land bathed in wondrous, meaningful sunlight. Like a spotlight, it highlighted the egg for all the woodland creatures to bare witness to.
[break][break]
Fate, perhaps, for a family of undomestic cats slinked up to the egg with the utmost degree of causion. Their arrival aligned perfectly with the egg’s hatching, evidenced by the sounding of splintering eggshell. As the pieces fell away, it revealed something ostensibly feline; but even so, foreign features proved off-putting enough for the approaching animals to maintain their air of causion. After all, what they considered something perhaps related to them held ownership of a pelt painted cautioning colours and – well... wings. This was no cat, but he seemed helpless as he stared unwittingly at his new-found guardians.
[break][break]
Well, perhaps they would have become his guardians if they were not scared off by the large, foul-smelling feces that passed by. So, the newly-hatched exceed was left there all by himself to cry incessantly.
[break][break]
Convenience abounds. Nearby rested a home built from large, hefty logs - a cabin - and despite that, was not very large at all. The building was relatively secluded, not within, but near the village of Tiger's Eye. The cries from the newly-hatched exceed reached the ears of, coincidently, another exceed that happened to be living there. Carpeted in blue fur, short, and equipped with a dewy-eyed curiosity, he ventured from his home and brought himself before the baby exceed. After standing there for a moment, he scooped him up after some kind of decision was made and brought him back to his home. Likely, the combination of irksome crying and it having belonged to one of his own species prompted the somewhat touched decision to take the being home and care for it. With no company and only himself to hunt for, the additional mouth to feed was welcome. Hector became his name and his caretaker? Kayseth. His education and perceptions were mostly taken from him.
[break][break]
Slowly, as Hector grew and the more he ventured into town, caught wind of rumours and conversation, he grew more and more privy to an important discovery. This child was from Tiger's Eye. However, not only that; but after crossing paths with Hector's lookalike, Kayseth was able to set the final piece of the puzzle. His adoptive son was an unwanted, illegitimate son and half brother to one of the locals named Lancelot. It was only fair to have the two meet.
[break][break]
This was when Hector discovered that he was not a great fit for that village over all. He was wondrous to Kayseth, but hateful to nearly anybody else. Also, Lancelot was a prominent figure, skilled, and by comparison, Hector was the polar opposite. There was so much information to process. He was apparently unwanted, bested by his younger half-brother, not much liked by anybody... Hector, equipped with his full name, took it back with him into the forest he grew up in.
[break][break]
Hector felt a compulsion to best his half-brother – but to do so, he needed to take a different path than he. He had an aptitude towards certain work. He never did reveal such things to Kayseth and under the guise of traveling around to discover himself, his adoptive father complied, gave him some of his sagely advice, which was mostly ignored, and saw him off.
[break][break]
You know what they say. Like attracts like. He was scouted by an underground guild after bearing witness to him felling a man by clawing his throat out for the fish in his cart. It was perfect. He could employ his newfound talents, bolster them, and show up not just his half-brother, but the whole town if he wanted to.
