No really, it was stormy as hell, and with their van pelted with bullet holes from their most recent adventure, it wouldn't make sense for the duo to keep on trucking while their vehicle slowly filled with water. The guild master might've been incapable of getting sick, but the feline was still very much alive, and very capable of catching a cold.[break][break] So, they decided the best course of action was to stop somewhere to spend the night. Coincidentally, they were passing by a strange-looking house in the middle of nowhere. Somehow, it was still fully intact, and it looked like the average suburban houses from one of those old photographs that she'd seen of the pre-Calamity days. Normally, her instincts would've compelled her to leave this place and drive right past it, but it felt as though she was being drawn in by some strange force.[break][break] There wasn't a garage, and the next best thing was a shady oak tree a small walk away from the house. They'd likely have to scoop out the water come morning, but for now, Cheshire found herself standing in front of the door, knocking on it several times to see if there was anyone at all who lived within. There must've been someone, right? The place was perfectly intact, and the lawn up in the front was perfectly maintained.[break][break] "Hullooo? Anyone in there? ”Now ain’t that real spoopy.”
Anniken continued to spin her spear around in her hand, the blood from her enemies long since having been washed away by the incessant downpour. Crimson eyes watching the door peel open as though an unseen force beckoned them in, the Black Wolf grinned. ”Guess our little detour’s gonna be more interestin’ than I thought.”
The spear she spun with honed dexterity was Gungnir, the spear wielded by Odin. Even for those with weak senses, it oozed divine power from every imbued segment. A weapon said to never miss and always return to hand, it was the armament she slayed many combatants with over the course of their latest endeavour.
Attire and hair soaked from the poor weather, she proceeded into the building without hesitation. No matter what lurked inside, getting Cheshire out of potential hypothermia held importance over the otherworldly entities. Not that she batted an eye towards the possibility.

The banes of her existence were vegetables, insects, and ghosts. As they were venturing into an abandoned house that probably hasn't been lived in for ages, it was a situation where two strikes were just waiting to happen.[break][break] Cheshire stepped in first, her eyes instinctively darting around for anything out of the ordinary. Though, with the way her powers behaved these days, she wouldn't trust her own readings, but from what she's seeing right then, everything looked far too neat and tidy for the place to be uninhabited. [break][break] They stood in a cozy-looking living room, where a set of three couches were arranged in a rectangular formation to face the television, which was turned off at the moment. A wall separated this area from what she presumed to be where the owners of this home dined and cooked, and a set of stairs led upwards to the bedrooms. It was kind of late at night, so the feline might've had the wrong idea, and whoever stayed here was probably just asleep. She hoped they wouldn't mind the intrusion - the last thing she'd want was to wake up with two shotgun shells buried in her chest.[break][break] But then, the television seemed to turn on by itself, playing nothing but static. Anniken snickered when she heard Cheshire speak about an aversion to the macabre. Of course, the irony was not lost on her and founded her humour. Even though she knew that the feline dealt with shadows, eccentric whispers and dated a vampire, somehow the irony fit like a missing piece of a puzzle. From it arose many different teases she could make, and another utensil for her to use during random visitations at night.
Creepier than the atmosphere itself, upon walking further into the abode the duo was met with tidiness and normalcy. Standing amidst a living room, she spotted nothing atypical. Expected arrangements included an adjacent kitchen, an upstairs, and couches. Since she could see into the past and future, she knew of one odd instrument in the room most people were ignorant to.
The television seemed strange; their world lacked broadcasts since the Calamity, causing most people to eschew their usage. It made the Godfather wonder if anyone was present, and how old the structure was.
With her attention glued to it, she noticed it turn on by itself. Hearing Cheshire inquire if she tampered with it, she chuckled.
”Nah, neither myself or Justice did a thing to it. And you know I ain’t the lyin’ type. You believe in them ghosties, Chesh?”

Perhaps the house had some sort of faulty electrical wiring that caused this thing to turn on by itself. She wouldn't know. Her mind at that point was just clawing and digging for any logical answer that had zero relations to the supernatural. And when she couldn't come up with one, it just seemed as though her bodily functions decided to shut down, and she was left there, motionless, almost paralyzed to a degree.[break][break] As much as she wanted them to leave the house, there wasn't anywhere else they could go to hide from the rainstorm. AJ didn't seem to be fazed by anything and was basically doing this for her since she was the only one who was still able to get sick. It kind of made her regret asking for that one week grace period before she'd finally turn. They were still a couple of days off, but if she'd done it sooner, they wouldn't be caught in this predicament.[break][break] "B-Babe? Can you.. hold me? I-I mean, only cause I'm cold.. n-nothing else." Ah, the signature stuttering when she's attempting to lie about something. It's what makes her an extremely bad liar, though in recent times she's maneuvered her way through half-truths, so at least it's an improvement if she ever intended to dip her toes in public relations.[break][break] Just then, the volume of the television seemed to raise by itself. The static grew louder and louder until it reached a certain threshold, then it changed stations. Cheshire stammered a request her way pertaining to holding her to stave away the fear encroaching her being. It was disguised as being cold, but she doubted the temperature drop was the lone culprit in her shaky voice and disinclination towards standing idle without an embrace. Anniken chuckled, and then draped an arm around the feline. She supposed not everyone in the world lacked sanity to her level, and the unknown tended to scare them. The unknown interested her, because with her Eye it became scarce.
The television started to blare louder, and even began broadcasting old riots from around the world. The blonde’s expression reset, the smile she wore before disappearing while she kept her attention fixed on the material. Cheshire advocated hiding in the shadow realm until morning came, but she shook her head in response to her suggestion.
“Hold up…”
Anniken, if permitted, would lead Cheshire into the kitchen area of the abode. She would make her way to the fridge and open it up. After prying it open, she checked for any food. Remarkably, she managed to find a few club sandwiches and beer; she wondered if other people camped out at the location before them. Regardless, she took it out of the fridge and walked back over to the television. Sitting on the couch, she attempted to draw the feline next to her with her arm still around her and take a bite out of one of the food items she pilfered.

Anniken frowned when she felt her arm pulled away, denying her attempt at biting down on what appeared to be a delicious club sandwich. Though something seemed off about the home, the blonde failed to rouse much care regarding it. After all, if anything or anyone had an issue with them inside the abode, she would duly disintegrate them until not even their atoms remained; no matter if ectoplasm comprised their bodies or flesh. If it was poison, or some other ungodly substance, she doubted its ability to challenge her constitution.
”You think I’m gonna be done in by a sandwich? A ghost sandwich?” The biggest question was why she wanted to eat a sandwich, given her diet consisted of blood. Still, it was nice to remind herself of the old days by chowing down on mundane food, even if it posed no nutritional value to her. ”Come on, Chesh. My head explodes and I just get back up, for Pete’s sake.”
With a small shrug, she supposed she would at least let her make her case regarding the identity of the mystery food and the eccentric home.

”Yum, protein,” Anniken answered the initial concerns dismissively, still waving around the mystery sandwich in her hand. Though the idea of eating maggots and rotting meat sounded unpleasant, she wondered if her physiology would care about it or not. Would it taste bad to her? Those were the real questions in life.
Posing a request for the Godfather to use Odin’s Eye and protesting about the dreary location, Cheshire laid her concerns bare. Anniken glanced towards the ceiling for a moment, and allowed her right eye to be wreathed in the typical off-colour indicating the activation of her true magic type.
While she used its divine capabilities to prune information of the past, future, and information concerning the eccentric abode, she decided to tell Cheshire what she already knew about the recent events.
”Been a thing goin’ on lately regardin’ a certain spirit stealin’ people’s magical energy for a foul purpose,” the Godfather informed, manifesting what appeared to be a large revolver in her grasp. Pointing it ahead of them, she narrowed her eyes.
”Show yourself, boy,” she said, pulling back the revolver’s hammer. ”You got ‘til the count ‘a five…”

As usual, the voice came from everywhere at once. Its origins were nigh impossible to pinpoint. Even so, the speaker did not stay hidden - not this time. A floating, cloaked figure appeared. Phantasmal, its head either a pumpkin or within one - it looked... annoyed, actually.
"Firstly," he started as he hoisted the lantern high. As it flickered, strength left the both of them.

”A trick, huh?”
Irresponsive to the commentary around her, Anniken pushed herself to her feet. Slashing a wicked grin upon her fair countenance, a barricade of shadow from her blonde hair’s canopy draped over her eyes. There was little hesitation—constraints on her own magical power released, a suffocating, overbearing presence began eclipsing not only the house, but the entire environment it was nestled within. It exerted a pressure on all entities, living or dead, while the foundation of the building began to rumble upon having its integrity challenged.
”Ya know, I was a Halloween baby—fancy that, huh? Both of us!” Boisterous laughter tore free from her throat as she pushed her bangs back, razor fangs on show as her grin broadened. Wide eyes focused on the spirit, a rivulet of saliva escaped beyond her lips as she and her power both entered a delirium. ”You wanna give ol’Anniken a TRICK, HUH? Are you crazy, boy? You stealin’ MY magic without permission?”
Cocking the revolver, she squeezed the trigger.
”Fine, I’ll show you a Trick. You show me yours, I show you mine!”
Firing the bullet into the ground, it appeared to be comprised of some eldritch manner of miasma. Sinking into the floor, it corrupted it to the point of rot, expanding to encompass beyond just the foundation of the abode. Seeping into the environment surrounding it for an approximate mile, what small modicum of light particles once salvageable in the area dimmed, and a quake rinsed through the ground.
The windows shattered. Rotted limbs crawled through from all sides of the building, revealed to be the delipidated faces of reanimated corpses. An all too familiar blend of magic, derived from the incident months ago when the world was overrun with the undead. Twisted things, mutant species, maggots the size of elephants, even the mangled body of Valtiel, the undead wyvern the militia faced off against, marched towards the house as innumerable cadavers crawled into the room with their sights set on the spirit.
And then, a hand tore through the wall of the building, a familiar mask peeking through the shower of debris and splintered wood. The eerie abomination that crawled free of the body of the wyvern at the conclusion of the attack.
”But I bet mine is a SHIT TON bigger…”

Finally, there was a response.
“This place already seems haunted – there's no need for me to clutter up the place even more, right?” The question was accompanied by a finalizing look about the monstrosities peppering his environment. It was hard to read his facial features, of course; but it was clear to most that he was putting up a strong front and was about to flee – which he did.
