Slave to This [mission/ closed]
Sept 3, 2019 13:27:19 GMT
edited on Sept 3, 2019 13:27:44 GMT by Sovereign Pale
Ah, slaves, something that had grown more abundant over the years since the calamity. For almost a hundred years the business of slavery had been something that had almost boomed, since there were no real laws or regulations anymore to combat this. Of course, guilds sometimes got some requests to solve this, but tackling one portion of this huge industry would never solve it. Slavery was something that has always existed, and probably will continue to do so for many years to come. "How sad." Sovereign said drily, though it was unclear whether he was being genuine or not. In a way, he knew it was terrible, but most people under his protection were also terrible people. He had worked for the business himself almost a year ago, solely for money and his own gain. And now, here he was fighting against it. There really was no commitment with Master Pale, no sense of trust between him and his clients. So why the sudden change of heart? There were rumours that a certain 'shipment' contained some special goods. A special egg in the basket of rotten ones. His goal was to seek out this certain someone with a certain magical talent, assess the threat of it and deal with it accordingly. But he knew he wouldn't be able to bust this operation alone, so he needed to team up with someone, and pretend that of course, he was doing this for the good of the people... And not to potentially murder a slave after instantly freeing them. It was cold. His bones ached from the deep chill. It was also wet. His clothes clung to him as the rain pelted down. And it was windy, lashing at the exposed parts of his face, making his lips cracked and dry. A storm was brewing, and sooner than later the black clouds above would begin to spark and send down strikes of lightning. It wasn't the most pleasant of weather conditions, but it would make for excellent cover if they chose to be more discreet about this mission. Looking down at the port from a cliff he was perched on, he'd see the faint lights of lanterns and lacrimas drift about, likely held by guards on patrol. This small docking area was separate to the main docks, making it the perfect place to ship in slaves from islands and other parts of Earthland. Kin Harle :D

Was there anything more miserable than being wet and cold? Absolutely not, if you asked Kin. The icy gust clawed her arms, while the chill of stone bit into her toes. Deep shivers crawled across her whole frame. At times like these, she almost regretted avoiding the conspiracy that was shoes. Almost. She would never surrender though!
As Sovereign voiced his dry comment, a joking whisper crept from behind him. “I know, right...?” The blonde mage sat next to him, having returned from what she insistently called a super secret spy operation. And not scouting. That was just boring. “Why couldn’t they have picked a warmer town for their hideout?” She sniffled weakly, wiping her runny nose. Visiting a dry desert was starting to sound really good right about now.
Between the shivers, the playful mercenary cast a glance at the mysterious man, Sovereign Pale. Even as they sat there side-by-side, she couldn’t say she knew much about him. ...Mostly because she never cared to ask. Being openly told something wasn’t even nearly as fun as stealing secrets.
Another gust whipped the woman’s back and she groaned. This had seemed like an amusing idea at the time... You know, taking down some slavers. Good pay was enough of an excuse for members of different guilds to work together. For a while anyway. Now she had just to pretend she was doing this for some noble purpose... And not because she wanted to dunk all the slavers into the cold, black sea.
Kin gritted her teeth to stop them from clattering. Shakily she elbowed her partner and voiced a whiny whisper. “Come ooon... Let’s go already and sneak somewhere waaarm...” Easy for her to say. Locked doors couldn’t stop her. Not that she even needed a door.

Sovereign definitely agreed with finding some place warm, but he was also concerned about just how discreet they needed to be. He'd prefer it if they could avoid as much bloodshed as possible, he hated washing out red stains from his clothes or just having to sew new ones together. Although he was fond of sewing and textiles as a hobby, he hated when it had to become a chore. "Of course, let's jump on down." He would begin to say, as more voices seemed to accompany him as he spoke. Suddenly, there were five other duplicates behind him, all equally as drenched and perfect in copy. "Let's locate the shipment."In unison, the six Sovereigns would jump forwards, straight off the cliff and towards the docks below. He feared not for injuring himself upon landing, for there seemed to be another group of duplicates waiting for him, linking their arms and catching him elegantly before pushing him on his feet again. The group was suddenly larger, and their wicked smiles flashing into sight when the odd flicker of lightning crackled across the sky. "We can cover most of the shipment containers if you wish to accompany us." He'd state, as some of the duplicates had already headed off, walking with confidence and poise but still staying clung to the shadows. Sovereign also planned on another location he wished to search, which he knew would not contain any of the slaves but it might have information on them. The main building, where information on shipments and employees are kept. There might be someone working there now, but that wouldn't be a problem.

Much to Kin’s quiet relief, her partners agreed to get moving. ...Wait, partners? She turned her quizzical stare towards the voices, finding five more of the masked man. Curiosity sparked immediately within the golden gaze. Now wasn’t that a fun little party trick?
The trickster followed the lead, bouncing down from her perch. Deftly she bounced between the outcrops jutting from the cliffside. If the clones didn’t move it, one of them would’ve gotten the honor of softening her landing with his face. Buuut if the walking footstools evaded her, a quick roll would do. It was almost as fun too.
Kin mirrored the smiles with a crescent grin of her own. “Hee, as if I would let you have all the fun. Of course I’m coming.” She hurried after the duplicates, blending into the darkness like a mischievous little shadow. Only the occasional flash of lightning caught a peek of her while she moved.
Upon reaching the first unattended shipping container, the sneaky mage pressed against it. Her eyes and body light up with a ghastly glow. Without a sound, she simply slipped right through the wall. Few seconds later she walked out from the other side. “Just fruits in here...” Her disappointed whisper was accompanied by a soft chomp as she bit into a fresh apple. Mmh, sweet~! Okay, less disappointed now.

Like an army of ants, each Sovereign marched off with strong determination and individual goals in mind. Some were on lookout for guards, some were ordered to take them out, a few were ordered to search shipment containers and one was headed to the main building. They watched as Kin slipped through the container with ease, only to phase back out with an apple in hand. An ability like that made stealing extremely easy, and they wouldn't have to pry open every container just to check if it was the right one or not. "Shame, I was sort of hoping these containers would be full to the brim with slaves in need of rescue. Onto the next."Meanwhile, the real Sovereign had made his way quickly to the large wooden building that overlooked the docks, a light from inside signified someone was either in there or had been recently. What few guards were situated around this little area had already been taken out, clones of Sovereign looming over their unconscious bodies as they gave an affirmative nod to the original. Gripping hold of the door handle, he'd slowly turn it and push it open, feeling the warmth from inside the building as he took a step in.

Kin shrugged at Sovereign’s comment. “Not every ticket is a winning one, you know.” She was simply eager to see if there was anything worth stealing in these. Finding slaves would be a bonus. She chucked the half-eaten apple over her shoulder, trying to hit one of the clones, before walking through more containers. Hmm, nope, not here, nooo... Ooh, imported cheese! Nom.
However, soon a shrill scream echoed from one container. Dozens of voices cried out in terrified unison. It was a good thing Sovereign and his merry mob had taken care of the guards. With the howling wind and the crackling thunder the cries didn’t reach too far.
Kin stepped through the container wall, still chuckling beneath her breath. “Found some~” Hee, the peek-a-boo routine never got old! She went to open the container door. Unfortunately the cold handle was slick with rain. No matter how she tugged, it just wouldn’t budge.
After a couple of fruitless attempts, the trickster let out a melodramatic sigh. “Oh, it’s hopeless...” She cast a coy look at the clones. “If only there was an army of strong and handsome men who could lend me a hand here~” Sweet as honey, her playful words tried to entice them into action. They could do all the work, while she claimed all the credit. Teamwork!

The apple that was carelessly tossed behind Kin did indeed bonk a clone on the head, and every single duplicate scattered around the docks would each let out a quite "Ow." as they rubbed their head. They didn't chase up on the issue though, and just carried on doing what they were instructed to do. Hearing the distant and muffled screams for help, they'd all make their way to the shipment container. The large metal structure definitely being the temporary prison of some unlucky people. Beneath the sound of rain and wind, were bangs against the metal and cries for help. Kin simply slipped through once more, then coming back out to confirm it was the correct container. "Perfect, you've definitely made this a lot easier!" Sovereign chimed, grinning as he stepped over to it. The lock was too strong for a simple whack of his mace, and there was no way he could use it to beat the door down. It required the use of some magic, and just a little at that as to not harm any of the slaves. Four Sovereign's stood at the doors, the detailed patterns on their masks beginning to glow a white colour as ethernano built up around them. After a slight delay, three clones would disperse into black energy, covering the entire door before a high pitched humming was heard. Power built up ever so slightly, enough so that the detonation would only blast the door off. It worked like a charm, and the piece of metal went soaring through the air and clanged to the ground. "Tadaa! We're here to rescue you!"

Secrets were delicious. Far better than any apple. Kin watched the clones closely, delighted at their shared reaction. It shed light into the true nature of this party trick. Neither illusions nor mindless magic constructs were so... lifelike. Now wasn’t that intriguing?
The trickster pretended to blush at the compliment. “Oh, you flatter me, good sir...” Her tone didn’t hold the fake shyness for long. “...But you’re right. I’m amazing~” She puffed her chest, smiling oh so smugly.
Taking a step back, the ghostly mage gave the four men plenty of room to work their magic. Her smile sharpened. Hm hm, tonight was full of interesting secrets...
Just as planned, Kin swooped in to steal the credit. “That’s right!” Her eyes burned with an eerie glow as she looked down on the famished and filthy slaves. “You mortals may now bow down and worship me as your savior.” Flinching at the ghastly tone, the unfortunate souls looked at each other. From one master to another, someone muttered grimly.
One after another, they followed the command...
After a moment of tense silence, the trickster’s mask cracked. Laughter seeped through. “Pffft hahahahaha~!” She laughed herself breathless before the giggles finally subsided. “Oooh... Oh wow, you actually did it...” Wiping away her tears, she flashed a cheeky grin. Her chiming voice left the slaves flustered.
“Just kidding~!”

Kin was quick to jump in, taking advantage of how scared these people were and playing some more tricks and games on the poor sods. Sovereign couldn't help but smile as it all took place, two wicked heroes here to save the day. It was becoming very apparent what kind of person Kin was, and Sovereign was really liking her devilish-joker personality. It reminded him all too much of his own twisted humour. "I kind of liked it when they all got down on their hands and knees." He jested, insinuating for them to do it again. But he merely laughed and waved a hand in dismissal. "The door is open, but do not leave just yet. I have some business to attend to. Kin, keep them in here for a little longer."Whether she helped or not, a few more duplicates would appear on guard, staring inside the container at all the angry and confused prisoners. A Sovereign at the other side of the docks was rummaging around a wooden building, pulling open draws and flicking through documents as the clones did a quick sweep of the area. So far, they hadn't found what they were looking for, until an old man opened the door and gasped at the sight of so many intruders. "You shouldn't be here!" He shouted, waving a handful of papers at the boys. They stopped what they were doing and stood up straight, smiling at the man and the papers in his hand, "There you are!"Their voices boomed in perfect sync, and five of the Sovereign's would dart forwards, their bodies morphing into a viscous black sludge as it slammed firmly against the man. The energy blasted him back, pinning him against the wall as it continued to swirl around his form, preventing any kind of movement as he groaned in agony. Walking over, Sovereign would reach up and grab the papers, shuffling them around as he began to read them...

Delighted by the commentary, the devious trickster was quick to agree. “Mmhm~ It’s fun to be worshipped~” She could’ve gotten used to it... Not! As if she needed anyone’s praise. Buuut it was nice to be appreciated, even if reluctantly and only for a moment...
However, when Sovereign mentioned his business, Kin’s eyes immediately gleamed. “Business, hm~?” Her smile sharpened into that eerie crescent grin again. “A funny coincidence... So do I...” She sensed secrets. There was no way she would just sit still and let the clone boy have all the fun.
The sly woman cast a cheery look at the identical enforcers. “You boys have this under control, right? Right!” She didn’t give them a chance to protest before already dashing off. Now if she were to guess, the so-called business was happening inside that inviting building.
And if not, it would at least be warm and dry.
Crouching by the corner of the building, Kin channeled her magic again. Bathed in a ghostly glow, she peeked into the building right through the wall. Oh wow, the place was kind of a mess... Her golden gaze soon found Sovereign and his new involuntary friend. Now what could possibly be so interesting about a bunch of papers, hm?

The black energy that enveloped the old man seemed to change from one state to the other, shifting from gas to solid, to liquid and then back again. It was a grotesque mass of black magic that seemed to whisper and entice those near it, its constantly shifting state licking against his face and caressing the wooden walls yet still maintaining a firm grip against him. "That's not for you to read!" He'd shout out, and Sovereign raised a finger without looking at him, and the black magic whipped around the man's mouth and slammed his head back against the wall. Due to being so concentrated on the documents, he hadn't realised that Kin was spying on him. The ghost of the Southern Wolves practically in the same building as he, yet he was oblivious to it. Though there was one good thing, the documents he was reading were exactly what he had hoped them to be. Records of certain slaves they had found in the container, details on their names, backgrounds and magic potential. They were being shipped toa desert of some description, to help excavate some ancient ruins... And 'power' some kind of artefact? It was worrying information, something a little too dangerous than he had anticipated. But at least he could work on this in small steps. To test the limits and power of a select few 'slaves' to deem them too dangerous for society, and deal with them appropriately. In the mean time... "You're an idiot for running operations such as these." Sovereign began, looking up at the man as he took a few steps towards him. He could see the worry in his eyes. With each step he took, another Sovereign would step out from behind him, until there was a row of ten facing the man. Each one took turns in talking. "You're controlling people who should not be controlled."
"Too stupid to realise these people have far more power than you anticipated."
"Did you really think you had the man power to keep these poor people wrapped around your fingers?"
Once they had all lined up, their masks would glow with white light, and they spoke in unison with an echoing and stern voice. "Fool."They were preparing to attack.

Snooping around was one of the trickster’s favorite hobbies. She had gotten good at sneaking into places and finding out secrets. And now... It seemed she had stumbled upon something delightful. Anything that was forbidden to read was a great read!
Slyly the ghost snuck closer, slipping through the furniture. Bare feet made no sound on the floorboards. It was surprisingly difficult to find a balance between staying hidden and peeking over one’s shoulder. Now she wanted to read that stuff too...
Kin listened carefully as the clones gave the slaver a good tongue lashing. She silently agreed with the first part in particular. People were meant to be free. However, seeing the familiar glow gave her pause. Were they going to... kill the man? Hm. Too bad she didn’t have popcorn.
While clones dealt with the fool, the trickster sunk back through the desk. No, she didn’t have the slightest intention to interfere. Killing was... dull, sure... Dead people couldn't play games after all... But slavers deserved no pity. Besides, she had her own target she was trying to find... Warm and dry clothes. A nearby chest started creaking and trembling as the playful poltergeist rummaged through it from the inside.

Magic swelled up, the intensity of it making pressure build up in the room as Sovereign's own ears began to pop. But just at the moment he was about to blast this man through the wall, he stopped. The light in the masks died down and he lowered his hands. There was an odd noise coming from the back of the room, strange bumps and shuffles from the large chest. All the Sovereign's looked at one another, just as confused as the other as a couple would go to inspect it. Bending down, they'd lift the lid up and all cock their head to one side in confusion. This was definitely not what they were expecting to find. "Um... You good?"

When the lid opened, the clones would find a mischievous ghost buried in clothing. Shirts, pants, underwear and more had been messily mixed around. Her head popped from a pile of socks “Oh, hi!” Luckily these were all clean...
Kin closed her eyes, cocked her head and deflected the question with the most innocent smile she could muster. “Yup! Totally. Doing great even.” After an awkward pause, she reached out to the closest clone. “...Buuut since you’re there, mind helping me out of this chest?” What? No, she wasn’t stuck!
...Okay, fine, she might have been a little stuck.
Naturally the trickster had no intention to admit her spell had run out. Rather, she knew just the thing to distract the man. “I found some treasure, you know. If you play nice, I might even share~” Psh, not likely...

Sovereign extended a hand towards Kin, allowing her to grab it so he could help pull her out the large chest. Various clothes hung off her like a badly decorated christmas tree, mainly underwear and socks. What was she doing inside of it? "Treasure, huh?" Sovereign raised an eyebrow, though that wasn't visible under the mask. He just continued to smile at her, his other clones still keeping a close eye on the man bound to the wall and the recently freed slaves held in the container still. "Where?" He looked down into the box, though saw nothing but clothes. "What kind of treasure?"
