Orion took a huge gulp of his drink, laughing loudly at some random joke told by a random guild member. It wasn't funny. It didn't matter if it was funny. They were all having a good time, after all, and that's what mattered in the end. Drinks were out, games were played, and food was served. For Orion, life was good!
Without a moment too soon, he had finished his drink. With a groan, he stood up and yelled, "More rounds!" and was greeted with a loud huzzah! from his guild mates. It didn't matter that the beer tasted like piss. Well it did matter, since Orion almost gagged at the first sip. But at this point, he was past worrying.
Someone shouted something about joining the guild, and Orion quickly put his hands up, "I joined the guild, so I can pet some cats!" Orion grinned, his face turning slightly red from the four mugs of beer he had already consumed. "I always liked cats! And dogs too! But don't tell any Topaz or Koji!" He was still shouting at this point, and maniacally laughed as he took another mug from a guild mate's hand and chugged its contents down in a heartbeat.

❄Ice Cold Walls (Alecx)

I can see Orion visiting Shale Town, hoping to try out their bars, as well as possibly scouting out what Odin's Spear was all about, but then having met Alecx while sipping his beer. Not sure how their interactions would go, but Orion is a pretty stubborn fellow, and a chatter-box when he's had a few. The cold exterior might have made things interesting, since Orion doesn't mind at all, and in fact probably would have laughed her cold exterior off! Thoughts?

I'm not sure if Mikazuki drinks, but if he does, then Orion has probably met him at least once. Orion likes to think of himself as friendly, and even more so when he's had a few. His brash attitude might have hooked Makizuki once while he was out drinking? Maybe they shared some stories? Or maybe just complained together about the piss poor beer? Who knows?!

"Tsk," Orion took a huge sip of his beer, the bitterness of the drink was suddenly overpowered by the after-taste. Piss poor, that was what this beer was. Yet, it was the best Rhyolite could offer, and he could never complain about it. it wasn't like he could have any other kind, especially since trade between towns and cities was not as bustling as it use to be. Take whatever he could get, that was Orion's motto. And it has served him well these past couple of years.
He waited for Cheshire to be given her wine, before he answered, "I get out often now. Remember when I used to just lounge around? Well, I've finally decided to go full-time on this mage thing. It's been," Orion stopped for a moment, trying to find the right words for his experiences so far. "Interesting." The world was a big place. He knew it from the start, but seeing it himself was a whole different thing. It was gorgeous, if not dangerous. But there was still some sort of beauty within danger. It appealed to Orion.
"That's nice of you though, giving back to your family. I know lots of those who don't once they leave." Orion sighed, thinking about the families torn apart due to one person's greed. It happened more often than Orion would have liked. People left Rhyolite all the time, searching for something better. None of them ever come back, and he wasn't sure if it was because they've found something better for themselves and refuse to come back, or they had died. Either way, it destroyed a family, and Orion was never a fan of that. "Why don't you tell them you're around? They might appreciate seeing you. I'm not sure how your parting worked, but family is family, after all."
Orion smiled a small smile, taking another sip of his beer. It was still piss poor, and getting worse as it lost its chill. "Cait Shelter will always be unhappy when someone leaves. The guild functions more like a family, rather than a business organization like some of the guilds I've been so honoured to meet." Orion chuckled, remembering his chance meeting with some rowdy guild members at a pub. "But, we're also happy that you have found something for yourself. When someone leaves, it has to always have some sort of reason, and I believe that it must have been very compelling." Orion stopped for a moment, "Do you believe your reason was compelling enough? Was it all worth it?" The man sat back, watching Cheshire with an intense gaze.

"I guess I found where the idiot led his cronies to die," Orion muttered to himself, glancing at the femur once again, before going back to his rock-hard bread. The cave must've also provided a safe-haven for the aforementioned group, most likely hoping to let a snowstorm pass as well. It seems that the cave lured those who were greedy enough to try and ascend the steps into a secure hideaway from the snow storm, only for disaster to strike. Whether it's be monsters, or the cold itself, the cave seemed to function as a natural tomb for the green-eyed. Orion was neither green-eyed, not an idiot. For the most part. The sooner he found the heirloom sword, the better. Most likely, the sword was inside this cave. Somewhere in its bowels, lies Orion's prize for this quest, and he wasn't going to let anything stop him.
There was a lull, a sort of impending-doom type feeling, as Orion took the last bit of bread into his gut. The winds were still blowing, and snow was building up right by the entrance. It wasn't getting dangerously high, so Orion merely shrugged it off.
He stood up, and dusted himself of the crumbs. The femur was still there, just taunting Orion to make a move. Without a glance, he moved past it, going further into the cave. There was little light to spare, so he had to use the cave walls to maneuver himself. Crack. Orion looked down on what he had crushed, only to reveal more bones. "Yup, this was their graveyard alright." The remains weren't even far from the entrance, which Orion thought was strange. He had thought that maybe the group had gotten farther in, but something stopped them. Whatever it was, Orion was sure not willing to find out.

Ivory Volkov likes this
Orion was already regretting his decision to join this merry group of mages. He had been lounging around the guild hall, drinking and smoking his life away, when he was swept up by the rowdy crowd talking about earthquakes and other delightful events around the world. His curiosity getting the better of him, Orion came here, half curious and half wanting to see if there was any money to make. Judging by the amount of mages gathering, there has to be something special here.
The man had judged too quickly, dismissing the tittle-tattle around the area of Scoria. The gossip-mongers whispered of Scoria as being a hot-spot, a place where the horrifying became even more so. Orion dismissed those rumours. But now, catching a glimpse of the horrid-looking creature, he wasn't so sure about those rumours being just-rumours. He had almost dropped his cigarette when he saw the outlined figure of the monster. Fear gripped him for a moment. His face turned ashen, before swallowing it all down. There were a lot of mages here, he was sure they can all handle it. Maybe.
Looking around, he could see that mages from far and wide had gathered. He wasn't really sure if any from Cait Shelter had come, since he himself had taken a solo route. The walk was calming for him, and he hoped it would prepare him to face this monstrosity. He was wrong.
"I can't believe I thought this was going to be a good time," Orion sighed to himself. Well, he was here. He might as well walk around and get as much information as possible. Katana in one hand, and cigarette in another, he walked into the crowd.
Summary: Orion walked the scenic route to get to Scoria. He thought this was going to be an interesting time, he's not so sure about that anymore. The creature kind of scares the big guy. Where's his guild mates?!

To be honest, Orion was not sure why he thought he could make fire in this cold weather. There were three factors preventing him to do so. One, there was nothing to set aflame. It was all rock, stone, and everything in between inside the cave. There was no wood at all, and the cloth Orion had was not going to be burned. Best save any cloth for the cold, after all. Second, it was cold. Too cold. And gusty. The horrid conditions prevented him from making a fire, even if he had some sort of fuel. He was afraid to go further into the cave, at least, until he had too. He was tired, and was not really ready to face whatever lurked within. Third, and final reason: he did not want to attract any creatures to the smoke and flame. If he even had both fuel and good weather, it was still a stupid thing to set-up a fire, especially since Orion was not capable of taking down groups of monsters...at this point in time. He was a new mage, a lower ranking one, but he wasn't a stupid one.
"Should've brought booze." Orion cursed himself, as he chewed on the rock-hard loaf that he had packed himself. It was good ration, and the bread helped keep him full, especially since it was a heavy one. As he took another bite, he observed the cave he had taken shelter in. It was man-made. The walls were almost too-evenly cut into a half-circle. probably some sort of earth magic was used. The structure up the mountain seemed old, and this tunnel might have been a part of the it. Before he could continue his observation, however, he spotted a white-ish gleam just across from where he had plopped himself. He took a moment to realize that it was a bone. And from what it looked like, a femur.
"Fuck me."

Orion did not need to think twice as the mermaid seemed to have clung onto him. The dragon, or serpent, or whatever the creature was seemed too relentless in its pursuit. Orion's bucket would've provided a distraction, but only just. He hadn't caught much fish at all this time around, and the little he had hopefully was enough. With his luck, it probably wasn't. However, he didn't have time to dilly-dally.
"Hold on!" Orion roared, as he grabbed onto the mermaid's tail, securing her on his back, before making his way towards the shore. She was light, and not hard to transport at all. Her tail were not legs, which made things just a bit more awkward, but Orion did his best. He wasn't sure if holding her tail was a breach of etiquette or whatever customs mermish people had, but he had no time to stop and ask.
The sea serpent snarled. Orion felt the air stir, as though something catastrophic was about to occur. Warning bells rang in the back of his head. Without turning, the lightning god slayer knew that the sea serpent was once again on their heels, like a rabid dog chasing a piece of meat.
"Forgive me, miss," Orion said out loud, not turning his head for fear of seeing something that just might make him freeze. He had never seen, nor faced a dragon before, and he was not going to start today. The shore was close, and he was betting that the dragon of the sea would not be able to chase them on land. Betting was the key word.
With a heave, Orion used all of his training to become a mage into action. His body was not built the way it was without reason, after all. The last few meters of sea flew below the two. Orion used the momentum of the jump to turn himself in midair, hoping to land on his back. The mermaid was quickly shifted, and Orion hugged her close to his chest, hoping that the gravity of the situation would outweigh his unceremonious action.
Orion felt the sand hit him in the back, the combined weight of the both of them making the landing a bit more painful. He winced, but shook it off, hoping that his prediction was correct, and the dragon won't be able to chase them on land.

A Family Heirloom [Mission/Solo]

The blizzard got worse and worse, making visibility almost nonexistent. Orion had almost tripped more than thirty times at this point, his life hanging in the balance of his...balance. The narrow stairway carved into the mountain was both unstable and slippery, which made everything so much more dangerous as the weather turned from bad to worse. Every step was only visible one after another, and Orion had to make sure he was using the mountain side as a guide for sharp turns.
"Never a-a-again," Orion cursed, shivering from the small build-up of snow within and around the hood of his winter coat. He nose felt like it was going to fall off, and his ears did not feel any better. The chattering of his teeth was unstoppable at this point, and Orion was ready to just give up. But he had come too far, "I've got to be almost up there."
"Wait," Orion stopped, reaching out to the mountain side, which was surprisingly hollow. He looked towards the once-rocky face, which was now just a huge opening. With a smile, Orion walked into the safe haven, a cave to wait out the storm. "Now, how's about we make a fire!" Orion grinned to himself, shaking off the snow build-up on himself.

"Fine fine, you cheapskate..." Orion stuck his tongue out at the young woman, as he followed in her steps. If he was being honest, Orion had thought that Cheshire would have said no to his invitation. He knew for a fact that she was not much of a social creature, preferring to be alone for the most part. Her acquiescence made him smile internally.
Orion grumbled as she made her comment about not smoking, "First you have me pay, then you prohibit me from smoking?! How demanding!" Orion mock pouted, before taking the cigarette from the corner of his mouth, and throwing it down on the ground. With another step, he flattened the thing, putting the lit part out, making sure that no fiery accidents can happen. The last time he forgot to do that: it was on a boat, out in the open sea, and the ending to the story was not a good one.
Taking the seat across from Cheshire, he could see that it was a strategic spot. Dark enough that most will have to walk close to see who was occupying the table, and far enough that if she needed, Cheshire could make a quick escape. Orion just nodded internally at the choice, before raising his hand and ordering, "Old man, a pint of the best you've got, and whatever my companion wants. On me."
Making sure that Cheshire had ordered as well, he turned back towards the young woman and asked, "What brings you back here?" Stretching out his legs, he stared at Cheshire for a moment before continuing, "The world is such a big place, and yet the first time I see you since leaving, it's in this dreary backwater village." Orion meant no offence to his now-hometown, but he knew wherever Cheshire decided to leave Cait Shelter for, it must've been a much better place.

"As long as I know the right barkeep, a million dollars will get me quite far!" Orion laughed out loud, his own joke making him produce a bit of tears on the side. He was not one to live in extravagance. Orion, scion of the Prima family, preferred the quaint lifestyle. Money corrupts, he knew, and having a lot of money corrupts absolutely. This might not be the case before the Calamity, but afterwards? It was the stark truth. People who sought money and power solely for their own personal gain never really had a happy ending. Take for example his father.
There had been a time where Orion might have pressed the woman further, but looking at how she responded, he decided against it. There was an air of...nervousness, if that was truly what it was, around her. At least, she was uncomfortable, from what Orion could see. Under the mask of a happy-go-lucky man, Orion can be quite perceptive when it comes to serious situations.
"Hey hey, a barrel of the best always makes anyone's day better!" Orion grinned, inhaling his cancer-stick once more. At least, booze always made his day more bearable. It helped him cope quite a bit. Running away from your problems was never the solution, but sometimes, it just felt better tom run, and keep running. Sometimes, it's better to forget, than to remember. But, when it all comes crashing down, that's when the real problem starts.
"So, how about it? Share a drink with me, who knows when I'll see you next!" He smiled, pointing towards a bar around the corner that would have been deserted at this hour. "It's not busy, plus I promise to not tell anyone I've seen you today." Orion wiggled his eyebrows comically, "It'll be fun! Just like old times, then you can disappear to wherever you needed to go!"

The walk up was...interesting to say the least. Orion was sure he was at least half-way now, yet, he just couldn't be sure. The snow was quickly adding up, and the density of the seemingly brewing storm was making visibility quite awful. If this did not deter the young Ajedrez heir from turning back, then maybe Orion might have judged him too harshly. This snowstorm would have made Orion turn back. He'd rather be in a soft bed, within a warm room, in his own place. Not here, in the middle of a snow storm, trying to find an heirloom for family that was clinging onto the past too much.
A screech, followed by three more, alerted Orion of oncoming wyverns. With a practiced ease, he covered himself under his cloak, and pressed his whole body on the mountain-face. He glanced to the side, and could see the shape of wyverns battling the storm as they flew westward. Their nest must be somewhere there, and Orion was glad he wasn't heading in that direction. Just as he was about to continue his trek, a spark of danger in the corner of his eyes alerted him of another wyvern trailing the three. He paused, his body not moving an inch, hoping that the fourth wyvern did not notice him. One. Two. Three. Four. And it was gone; westward.
"Fucking wyverns." With that, he continued his trek upwards.

Orion blanched at the thought of having to climb the mountain by hand. He had almost turned his tail and walked back, abandoning the mission, if that were the only way to get up the mountain. Hands and feet, free-climbing they call it, just dangling in mid-air, probably the most stupid thing one can do in their lives. Orion was a lazy man, a care-free man, but not a stupid man.
"Should've known that spoiled brat would not have climbed this mountain with his bare hands," Orion shrugged, finding a small stairway carved onto the mountain side. It was small, barely fitting two men abreast, and crumbling. He looked at it for a moment, scrutinizing its foundations, before sighing. He was getting paid for this. He might as well try it out. "Here goes nothing," with that, took his first tentative steps up the mountain side towards his quarry.

The snow never stopped. Orion had hoped that some reprieve will be given for him, but the heavens did not seem to smile upon him today. He was used to the tree-filled forest areas of Rhyolite, where birds chirped and sang. In Stalagmite Wastes, there was only the screeches of the wyverns, and the constant dread of monsters attacking. The beasts were quite vicious, but certainly avoidable.
"You have got to be kidding me." Orion looked up, and saw a mountain. It had been a wasteland until this point, with small hills that made it a bit more difficult. But this mountain, was something else. he could see something on top of it though, something that looked like a tower. A remnant of a civilization before the Calamity. If that were the case, then Orion assumed that the Ajedrez heir went that way.
"Think of the money.." Orion muttered to himself as he slowly made his way to the base of the mountain, hoping to find a path of some sort.
