Arms wrapped around him and for the first time, he felt the strange sensation of fur-less limbs against his own body. In fact, despite the abruptness and strangeness of an unknown girl spontaneously giving him a hug, this superseded it.
“...In fact, yes! I am – wow, so strange... your fur-less body.” Merlin used a free paw to rub one of the arms embracing him.
After they separated, Merlin cleared his throat. “I am here to join Cait Shelter, yes. I heard from a student of mine about this here guild. Is your guild master around? I know it's late, but I would love to meet them! In fact, I heard two founded this guild. Perhaps I could speak to either of them?”

Soon enough, Merlin's eye caught sight of somebody in the window. They were looking directly at him. This caused him to cease up entirely. It was a difficult feat to not instinctually freeze in place after being spotted when the intention was the exact opposite.
Though, he was hardly petrified in fear. He allowed his front paw to return to the waiting soils below. He assumed the figure that just ran off after staring at him did so to greet him. After all, he was a great wizard – or at least he thought so. Maybe they heard of him? It was doubtful, but not an impossibility.
“...Greetings!” Merlin announced once she was in earshot.

“I'll just scout on ahead...”
These words were spoken in a hush, self-directed and owed their origins to a feline creature by the name of Merlin. A male specimen, the being slipped through the shadows of nightfall despite his light-purple fur paving. Two other travelling companions would have been in tow; however, Merlin slipped from their nearby camp by utilizing as much stealth as he could muster. While they slept, Merlin prowled nearer to where he was certain the sought-after guild lay. Perhaps fifteen minutes. Perhaps twenty. The building crept into view and as it did, his eyes widened and his smile widened.
“That must be it!” He whispered.

Arthur possessed an absence of fear, confident in their weapon while Lancelot believed they were to bolster their strength so they would be of no threat. The outlooks were similar in that confidence abounded. Of course, such was reassuring. The two beamed, possessed a bright future most certainly. However, what was in store for Merlin?
No such attachment could be seen upon Merlin's bestial visage. While hints of melancholy flavoured Lancelot's own, Merlin's strides were completely without hesitation or regret. Each step was assured and with purpose.
“Where are we headed? Well...” he started, elated at the question he was posed. “I've learned of a place a ways away. It will be days travel, but we search for a village called Rhyolite. Do you know what lies within?” He turned a glance the two's way, reward, rolling the glance over his shoulder with a daring guile.
“A wizarding guild! And I believe it is owned by fellow felines like ourselves. Similar mind and body, my growth will be exponential!”

They were both so adorable. No real harm was done to either of the two and for whatever reason, Merlin did not seem to find their exchange any bit dangerous. Then again, it was hardly the first time he witnessed such an exchanged. Their rivalry was a defining characteristic of the two.
“Oh, really now?” Merlin replied with a tone tinged with genuine surprise. “So, you both made arrangements to accompany me in advance before I could take my leave. That's quite clever.”
He moved passed the two after Lancelot made his readiness known. Of course, as did Arthur. It was just that the sword-wielding feline did not get the last word – at least not at that moment.
“Remember those of the village who felled those beasts. You two will have to do the same as they for we will no longer be within the safe confines of the village!”
There was something behind his words. He could not truly be relying on the two of them for the journey, could they?
“You're leaving, Merlin?” Inquiries of that nature peppered him as he made his way to the village's entrance. Stops were made along the way as a result; but eventually, they did pass into the outside world.

 Satisfied with the outcome, Lancelot came to feel a paw on top of his head. Though, nigh seconds later, in came Arthur. The pat on the head was fortunately not a lengthy endeavour. Merlin did not feel the blow, just looked upon the two with amusement after having retreated back a step or two.
At some point, he disappeared into the home and then ventured back out. The difference was the cloak he sported and a hat, black and tattered, ostensibly, by design.
“I'm leaving immediately, actually,” he warned. “I won't be bringing anything with me; but I suppose I should give you time to get your things in order, hm?”

“Mm hm hm.”
His signature, knowing chuckle.
Its introduction was, of course, a short-lived lull after the door to his humble, dusty home shot open.
“But whether I leave or stay, the bond between us – it remains.” These words that he carefully chose were fluff. One of Merlin's flaws was how he could easily disappear without goodbyes and farewells. His consideration for the feelings of others was lacklustre regardless as to whether or not he cared for them. Much too often, his mind was on which tome he may cross next. So, he attempted to utter something that could be perceived as deep or profound to skirt around the issue.
He crept from the shades of the home's interior after the sounding of rustling papers and weight descending upon the aged, wooden floor.
“You want to come with me?” It appeared he did not dismiss the latter half of his outburst. “Don't you have business here – but I mean, anybody who would like to accompany me is free to, of course! I would appreciate the company.”
“Good day!” He waved a paw at the head-bound dragon.
