The trickster suppressed a giggle while her partner-in-crime fed the sea creature a whole spoonful of bull. A devious grin tugged at her lips and she slyly covered her mouth. And the dumb thing actually ate it all up! Nyeh, a total dummy~!
Deceiver by nature, Kin naturally went on to feed the fool more lies. “I bet it’s the air up here. Too hot and dry for fish folk. They just boil from the inside aaand pop!” She brought her hands together and flung them apart, miming an explosion.
Meanwhile, the towering monster had been creeping closer. Slowly... Carefully... It reached its muscular arm around the blonde’s shoulder and pulled her gently closer. His sharp teeth shone as he smiled. “Hm~ You think I’m a fool, don’t you?” Frustration rumbled in his feignedly friendly growl.
To no one’s great surprise, the trickster simply couldn’t keep her mouth shut. “Mmmaybe~?” Immediately the grip around her shoulder tightened. Her bones groaned against the growing pressure. “The penalty for mocking the king is death.” Seeming utterly ignorant of the danger, she quirked a quizzical brow. “The king of what?” That was the famous last straw,
“DIE.”
With a motion faster than average eyes could follow, the sea monster drove a single sharp claw through the woman’s chest. Clean through the heart. A weak gasp left her lips. She lifted a trembling hand towards the pierced spot before falling limp.
“...Really though, the king of what?”
The chiming repeat of the question had the sea creature do a double take. His claw was still clearly lodged through her body, so how...? Seeing the obvious question shining in that beady stare, the creepy mage flashed back a crescent grin. Her own eyes were burning with a ghastly glow. “Dummy... You can’t kill what’s already dead...” And her tone took an eerie echo.

Slowly the transparent mage turned visible, if only so she could give her buddy a flat stare. And a mocking comment to go with it. “Wow, the heat has already gone to your head, huh?” She folded her arms and tried to keep her attention away from... bouncy distractions. Hmph, size wasn’t everything. ...So she silently assured herself.
Still, the trickster took mischievous pleasure in knowing her buddy handled heat poorly. Justice! Or something like that. The question was met with a cheerful chime. “Simple! It’s all in what you wear.” She gave the sweaty red-head a sly look. “...Or don’t wear~” With a playful snicker, she left imagination to run its course.
Kin cast a curious glance towards the sea. “Naaah, it’ll be fiiine. I think we already got them-.” Before she could even finish jinxing it, something emerged from the waves. It was a good head taller than most men and a whole lot bulkier too. Calmly it strutted out of the water and onto the sand.
Shiny scales covered the muscular body like an armor. Sea urchin spines on its shoulders resembled spiked pauldrons. Eight tentacles extended like a squirming cape over a tough turtle shell. Powerful arms ended in long claws dripping with something green. The massive jaws brought a shark to mind, filled with rows upon rows of sharp teeth. It was like the strongest traits of various sea creatures had formed a single monster. A tiny coral crown declared some sort of leadership.
The creature’s frame cast a shadow over the mages. Beady black eyes stared down at them. A deep and a surprisingly smooth voice slithered from between the sharp teeth. “Hm~? Are you the ones who slaughtered my minions?” If this... thing... was angry, then he certainly didn’t show it.
Kin stared back at the creature, but didn’t answer. She was too busy pondering which would get a funnier reaction... Admitting the obvious or playing dumb?

With a nasty combination of magic, the slimy creatures were easily dispatched. Beneath the twisted, devilish grin, the trickster was almost... disappointed. Almost. By how ominous the job listing had been, she had expected a challenge. Buuut then again, some silly sea creatures obviously wouldn’t stand a chance against the Southern Wolves.
Upon seeing the next wave of enemies, however, Kin lost her eerie mask. Gleeful giggling flowed from her lips as she nearly doubled over. “Pffft hahahaha~! Watch out or you’ll get pinched~!” She mimicked a snipping motion with her fingers, just to mock them more.
Maybe the crustacean crew took offense, because they charged the ghastly mage. Spears poked and swords flailed. Yet in the middle of all the chaos... The blonde woman vanished? Even the question directed at her was met with deathly silence.
Meanwhile, mysterious footprints appeared on the sand, slyly sneaking behind the enemy lines. Two swords dropped by the fallen foes started floating. As if possessed by a mischievous spirit, they suddenly jammed themselves into an unsuspecting crab. More pointy things soon joined the party. Chitinous armor was little use when they specifically targeted the vulnerable joints. With half of its legs swiftly crippled, it collapsed into the lingering flames.
The scent of grilled seafood started filling in the air...
Mischievous snickering trailed between the confused foes. One after another, they were assaulted by the seemingly sentient weapons. Knocked down... And prime for cooking!
Soon, a shimmering silhouette appeared by Morgan’s side. “Aw, worried over poor, little me~? How sweet~” A vaguely transparent finger rose, trying to playfully poke the red-head. “You should worry more about yourself. You’re pretty exposed out here, you know. Like a big target~!” A teasing grin briefly flickered on the invisible face. Poke poke~

When Morgan didn’t fall for the thinly-veiled ploy, Kin recoiled. Surprised. Shocked even. “Insane? Me?” The feigned innocence didn’t last. Her lips curled into a cat-like smile. “Nyehee~ Probably~!” Was she serious? Nope! But she loved giving people ideas and letting their imagination fill in the rest.
While the hot-headed mage tried to cool off, the trickster stole a sly glance. While her smile never wavered, a quiet mutter did slip past her lips. “Nyeh, show-off...” She averted her gaze, trying to ignore the burning little feeling within her chest...
Stray thoughts were pushed aside when the guests finally bothered to show up. Kin cocked her head, studying the fishy opposition. Idly she shook her head at the idea. “Hm, nope. I like my creatures cute and cuddly.” These things seemed way too slimy and slippery. Eugh.
As the attackers approached, the blonde suddenly... covered her face? She slouched. Soft sobbing started trailing in the wind. The sound was like a dinner bell for the foes. Hungry eyes focused on the defenseless target. In unison, they crawled closer...
Just before the creatures could take a bite, the ghastly mage revealed her teary features. She let out a shrill scream, radiating waves of dreadful magic. The sea creatures stopped in their tracks, turning oddly white. Those that didn’t immediately keel over started slowly inching backwards.
Soon Kin’s scream turned into haunting laughter. “Aaahahahahaa~! What’s wrong?” Her glowing eyes widened and smile sharpened into a crescent grin. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” Frozen in terror, the hesitant creatures were easy targets.

When the trickster caught her guildie whining about the weather, she spun around to flash a cheeky smile. “Hm, what’s this? You look like you’re melting~!” Playful laughter chimed in the wake of her teasing tone. Why yes, she did enjoy seeing hotshots suffer. Especially ones of her own guild.
In stark contrast to the lethargic red-head, the mischievous blonde was practically brimming with energy. She just couldn’t sit still. Even now she was idly tiptoeing around. Eagerly her gaze swept the beach, trying to spot anything fun. She had been promised monsters, you know. They sure were taking their sweet time though.
Maybe some bait would speed things up...
Kin’s golden eyes turned towards her ba... er, buddy, shining with an unmistakable glint of mischief. “Heeey Morgan...” She called out oh so innocently. “...if you hate the heat so much, why don’t you take a refreshing dip in the sea? I hear the water’s fine.” Well, technically she wasn’t lying. The water was fine. Probably. Buuut the things in the water... not so much.
While the mages... discussed... something stirred in the waves. A snake-like creature washed onto the shore. Big, bulging eyes peered around cautiously. A round mouth filled with sharp teeth gnashed hungrily. With the help of huge, claw-like fins, it started crawling along the sand. Soon several more of the similar, slimy creatures joined the patrol. All of them were heading straight towards the settlement...

Sand Castle Defenders [mission/closed]
Oct 28, 2019 7:41:07 GMT
edited on Oct 28, 2019 7:41:27 GMT by Kin Harle
MISSION NAME: Sand Castle Defenders CLIENT: People of the Sand Castle settlement. CHARACTERS: Kin Harle and Morgan Laroux MISSION BRIEFING: To whom it may concern,
Our lovely settlement of Sand Castle is under assault by vicious sea monsters. Thus we seek to enlist any powerful mages to slay these foul-smelling vermin. Should you succeed in protecting us, you shall be rewarded handsomely. If you fail, however, you shall not get a single jewel. For we will all surely die.
Sincerely, Huffrin Sandrash Mayor of Sand Castle Warm sunshine embraced a sleepy coastal settlement. Peaceful waves splashed against the nearby beach. The smooth sand stretched far into the distance. Salty breeze danced playfully across the scenery. A perfect day for...
Chaos!
A shady figure in a dark jumpsuit snooped around the hastily built shacks. Golden eyes scanned the sights and a sharp smile shined on her devious features. Toppled homes, crushed walls... Bite marks from massive jaws... Each torn and ruined building told a tale, you know. ...Though she was mildly disappointed to find that none of the houses were actually built from sand. Boo.
Kin stepped past the sorry excuse of an outer wall and strutted onto the beach. Stopping to bask in the sunshine, she slowly streeetched her whole frame. Mmmh, now this was the kind of place she liked! Cool wind in her hair and warm sand under her feet! After all the slave searching and bull bullying, she welcomed the change in scenery.
The trickster tugged her suit’s zipper down a little and patted through the secrets underneath it. Check, check aaaand check! She was well-prepared if things got too heated. And speaking of heated... Where had her dear guild buddy wandered off to...? Hm, or maybe she was the one wandering off?
Eh, whatever!

Cheshire Copeland Ooh, sounds interesting! Kin would definitely snoop around a warm, sandy beach. And she would certainly love to mess with any kind of fishy monsters. Helping people and getting paid would be a nice bonus. I like it! Do you wanna start the thread or should I?

Cheshire Copeland Hm hm, then I think I'll pick... Morgan! Socializing with fellow guild members is always fun! Plus the two teaming up for a mission maybe kinda makes sense? Morgan as the muscle and Kin as the mischief, yus.
So, what kind of mission would it be? Kin tends to stick her nose into any business that catches her curiosity, sooo I guess the important part is what motivates Morgan. Is it maybe adventure? Money? Punching people in the face? Choices, choices~!

Oh, this kind of LFG thread is a fantastic idea! I would love to have a leisurely mischief thread with anybody who could (ooor won't) put up with Kin's antics. She snoops all around the world pretty much, so any location is fine.

Much to Kin’s shock, Mercy had no bright ideas either. She watched the wolfish woman dig out another key and her stare narrowed. “...You wouldn’t.” Oh but she would and she did. Poof, the getaway wolf vanished.
“Aghoofsonofa-!”
The trickster dropped and tumbled with a string of curses. Luckily she didn’t get trampled right away, as one of the ravens provided distraction. She dusted her clothes, muttered something unsavory beneath her breath and... started crying? Yep, she just covered her face and soft sobbing crept across the scene.
Meanwhile, the bull shook its horns with enough fervor to make the raven back off. Turning towards the sound, it snorted, scraped the ground and charged. Just before it could send the girl flying, however, she revealed her features and let out a chilling scream. A foul burst of magic erupted from her body, pushing through charging beast. It came to a screeching halt. Terrible shivers shook its entire body. The beady black eyes widened.
After a tense pause, the creature bellowed again. Not from anger... but fear. Utterly terrified, it scampered away from the ghastly mage and escaped to the closest place it thought safe. Straight back into its own paddock. The furthest corner actually.
Mischievous laughter followed the chaotic scramble. Kin got up and wiped her crocodile tears. “Gotcha~!” She hid the lingering shakiness behind the cocky swagger. Nothing to worry about anymore...

To say the kind gesture caught Kin off-guard... Would have been a massive understatement. She blinked. Once. Twice. Barely even registering the words. Her golden gaze stared back with a mixture of puzzlement and curiosity. Well, this was definitely new.
Gentle warmth washed away the bitter disappointment. It painted the ghostly mage’s cheeks like an invisible brush. A small smile found its way onto her lips. Maybe... the fact that there had been neither real ghosts nor shiny treasures simply didn’t matter.
Suddenly the trickster flashed her usual sharp grin. “Aw, you do care, you big softy~” She fired back teasingly and escaped the touch with a playful push. What else was she supposed to do...?
Kin shook the thoughts out of her head. Turning halfway towards the exit, she voiced her new idea. “Hey, let’s race back home. The last one through the gate is a dry skeleton! Mweh heh hee~!” She sprinted through the door, leaving the mischievous laughter echoing in her wake.
Off to another adventure...
((Aaaand that's Kin's exit. Thanks for the fun thread!))
