Badabing, Bada.. [mission,closed]

In recent days, Ret made a valiant effort to stop grinning so much. However, with the task laid out before them and his fellow guild mate telling him he could just let himself go and that really was the point of the mission, all he could do was grin ear to ear.

“Please? Please!” he contested. “I don't need convincing at all to do something like this!” He was clearly all too excited.

“Alright, so which one should I go with? A semi? Rifle? Handgun? TWO hand guns?!” He was getting ahead of himself. In fact, he said just that. “I'm getting ahead of myself. Where are these dudes now, anyway? Close by?”

For a moment, he thought he should not go in guns blazing – but that's exactly what he wanted to do. First, he wanted to entertain the idea of approaching the task cleverly.

“No problem!” He gave her a mighty thumbs up. Ret's mood found greater elevation when she prompted an endless line of thoughts relevant to bigger weaponry he could bring out. Gratitude manifested upon Ret as the revival of his characteristic, perpetual smile. He believed the day was going to be a good one filled with outcomes he could only predict to be satisfying.

So, he hopped into the passenger's seat. It was done with a playful bounce and his eyes locked onto her own. “Hey, we ready to go?” he asked. Interestingly, it did not appear that anything had changed. He was wearing the same attire as before and did not appear to have anything extra with him.

“Oh!” He held out his hands and a curious device appeared between them. In a few words, it was a “military-grade” boombox of some kind. He moved his hand over its top, over the circular, glossy surface of some portion of the device. It turned on, obvious since as soon as it did, music started being produced.

“Oh, yeah. Couldn't pack even half of one more thing!” He assured when inquired about his preparedness. “Woah! And that's just how I like it!” Ret appreciated the speed the vehicle moved. He was never sure what to expect, but its top speed was more along the lines of something he would do. He always figured what he did was not what others did.

“I do like trips like these. It'll end pretty quick at this rate, but I mean – it won't be boring!” So, while they sped about as music filled the vehicle, a question was posed to him.

“Lacrimacito? I know, right? It's pretty great – this is actually...” Ret pointed straight at her. “Yeah! Back in the day. This thing's used for, you know... military transmissions, but there are no transmissions anymore. This is just the last thing this thing received. The lacrima here recorded it, but can record no more! It's just this song! Forever and ever!” Ret started laughing at his own words.

Well, Ret's laughter continued. If his own words were enough to have him laugh out loud, then the idea of secretly installing the device to draw those unbeknownst closer to insanity proved enough as well. “You know I'm gonna actually do that, yeah?” he questioned as he leaned forward, looking upwards towards the woman behind the wheel.

“Other stuff from that era, eh?” he echoed with a tone tinged with mild thoughtfulness. “My abilities definitely come from my enthusiasm over these delicious weapons here.” As he did that, a shimmer and a fully-automatic rifle appeared in his arms. He embarrassed it lovingly. “Outside of tools of the trade, I don't think I can manifest much from way back.”

He did not seem beat up about it, but then again he was enjoying his time with the firearm he just called into being. Of course, this meant there was no room for the boombox, so it disappeared.

“Great!” Ret allowed the weapon to return from whence it came – wherever that was.

“Hm, good question. Honestly, I wanna scare 'em first...”

A few were lazing about. They leaned against some unnamed building, makeshift and shoddy. One spit to their right, another to their left and another - if they had the resources to smoke, he would have been doing just that. He didn't. So, he just had his hands shoved his his pants' pockets.

“...fuck, we're badass...” One said.

“Right?” The other replied with as little enthusiasm as he could muster. After all, the more enthused somebody is, the less cool they are. Truly, it was an era of apathy were jaded, unconcerned and selfish personas were in.

Ret, on the other hand, opened the door to the vehicle quietly. He dropped to the sands and got low as quickly and silently as possible. Laying on his stomach, he took hold of nothing. Nothing at all. Just empty space, and what came to fill that space was a sniper rifle. He closed one eye and allowed the other to seize all the glory the gun's scope had to offer him.

So, Ret peered into his very namesake.

“Hey, Ches. Wanna spot for me?”

“Hey, no problem!” he said in a whisper, exclaimed, but hushed at the same time. “Basically just gotta tell me what they’re doing if they run away and oh, will they ever try…”

“You see the one there? Against the wall? Him first.” Ret gave Cheshire a heads up as to who he was going after first. One would have to wonder if Ret truly meant to scare them. To remove the mystery, no - not unless he meant he was just going to scare them to death.

One shot. It was directly towards his head. Did it hit? One just had to look at the body toppling over to confirm. Soundings of reloading ensued.

Another shot and it appeared the same success was had for a second time. “That one ran right into my sights…” he said with a subtle tone of amusement tingeing his words.

“Uh oh,” he muttered to himself. It was not the most authentic utterance. It was definitely spiced with satire. He heard his partner. She wanted to see some fireworks and, of course, not let them get away. As she mentioned this, Ret was already pushing himself to his feet. The firearm disappeared entirely and he started brushing his front of whatever glutenous sands remained tethered.

“Nah, we won't let'em get away, don't worry. Hey, could you just look over there?” Ret pointed behind her. There was nothing there. Just a conveniently level patch of stand on the dune they stood upon. Like something being dreamed into reality itself, a transparent structure manifested until it became completely opaque.

It was an attack helicopter.

It was definitely an alien construct. The otherworldly being had a talent for producing what seemed to not belong in this world.

“Okay, climb in on the other side! I'll climb in on this side!” Ret did just that, wasting little time in climbing up with the same grace as a child.
