Drug House[Close/Mission]

Entering the parking lot, the sports vehicle drew the young woman’s attention first. Her eyes widened, because it was a rarity for her to see such a luxurious vehicle instead of the rugged, armoured counterparts. From what she read about; she was aware that these types of cars were best suited for speed. Comfort came secondary, and the amount of cargo they could hold was subjective. For making fast trips through a land populated by beasts however, it may have been the best bet.

Always nervous when taking on an assignment that required her to head out to these harsh worlds, she put on her best smile and made her way over. Emerald eyes drawn towards the vehicle’s loaner; she did her best to be as amicable as possible. First impressions were key, after all.

”Hello, I’m Berry. Nice to meet you,” she started, hand gripping the strap of her purse. ”I’m here to help with today’s mission.”

The woman donned a stylish outfit. An open, black cardigan hung over a green blouse and red and black leggings with diamond patterns. The short white boots matched her handbag, and the pink flowers on her hat, neckerchief, and the brown one on her hair complimented the light scheme of her chosen garb. She bore a black hat on top of her head, and a single segment of her hair was braided.

The woman was very polite, and that was a relief. While she could tolerate being around the less socially inclined people, even she reserved no enjoyment for being insulted. If somebody refrained from using harsh words unprecedented, she usually had no qualms with them. In response to her introduction, she smiled.

Berry made her way for the passenger side of the vehicle in question once beckoned. The doctor agreed with the prospect of discussing while they were on their way; it would save them time in the long-run. She had no reservations towards wasting time normally, but the faster they got the medicine and equipment, the faster they could make an impact within the settlement.

”Yes, of course,” she said in response, before opening her door should it be unlocked already. Climbing inside and claiming the passenger seat, she leaned against the window as she forwarded her attention ahead of her. ”And I hope you’ve been enjoying your stay in the guild so far. People can make questionable decisions here, but they’re not bad people, either.”

With a nod, Berry reached for the storage compartment. Opening it up, she retrieved the list her partner talked about. Her eyes scanned the page, a sense of familiarity in her eyes while she read all the different brand names, specific terms for drugs, the various utensils that they needed and other things. There were even orders for performance enhancing drugs, which she had no reservations towards because this was life or death, not a sport. These types of missions made her happier, because they were for maintaining life instead of taking it.

”Okay, that’s good…” Berry started, and then remembered the part of her explanation that pertained to raiders. Looking around herself to remind herself of their small numbers for the job, she wondered if everything would be alright. Still, she tried to keep herself positive. ”Well, minus the raiders.”

The bad possibilities surfaced in her mind, but she was aware that raiders tended to not be magical. That increased their chances greatly, especially with her ability to heal any injuries they may suffer. She thought about this, even though she wasn’t a fan of combat at all.

”Do you have a rough estimate of how many there might be from the reports, Kasumi?”

Berry pondered for a moment when posed with a major question. Her brow creased under the weight of consideration, and she took a breath before providing her answer to the query.

”When it comes to codes of ethics these days, without governing bodies and other things, it’s hard to adhere to a concrete code. There’s no formal legislation or documentation that enforces the oath. Me being a doctor wasn’t something that happened with ceremony, I just have a magic suited for it and happen to live in a settlement with a great deal of books. I’d like to believe I do, but to heal an enemy to the guild would be treason,” she replied.

”It is always my preference that people aren’t subjected to the extreme, but—“ she started, hesitating for a moment. ”I won’t object should you have to do what you must. I’m not completely naïve. If negotiations fail, and if they are persistent even in the face of defeat, I won’t complain if you must do what’s necessary.”

While she was opposed to violence, the idea of tying up a bunch of angry raiders didn’t seem to bode well for the security of Shale Town. However, it was also unlikely they would be able to discern that they hail from there—she didn’t know. Berry just didn’t want to get her friends and family killed because of her own pacifism, hence her words.

Upon hearing about the lack of raiders, Berry released a relieved sigh. The less bloodshed they had to subject themselves to, the better. However, it failed to dismiss the feeling of dread in her gut. Feeling less safe when the vehicle halted, she peeked out of the window to look at the surroundings. For the most part, she deliberately kept her attention focused on the list in her hands.

Not only was the settlement abandoned and reeked of the unknown, but the buildings and everything around them seemed to have been exposed to the worst of time’s ire. She had a bad feeling about this. As much as she tried to tell herself it’d be okay, and stay optimistic, everything seemed sketchy and if it was free of raiders—then there was probably something else there. Things that were too good to be true usually weren’t, a lesson she had to learn the hard way many times over.

”This is true, but we should still keep our eyes peeled. Often, strange creatures lurk the lands. I ah, I have less reservations about those. I’m not a vegan or something, after all,” she said. Her voice was a tad shaky, but she did her best to try at weak wit.

The colour drained from the emerald-eyed doctor’s face when the stench hit her, coercing her into covering her mouth and nose with both hands. The wrenching feeling in her stomach twisted when the realization struck her, and reluctant examination revealed that her partner stood in a pool of blood. Feeling her heartbeat and breathing accelerate, the world around her seemed to spin. However, the lady was able to steel her nerves; though she did not look it, she knew she needed to look in the face of dread to help those in need. But this…

”K-Kasumi, there’s blood, a lot of it…” Berry started in response, wresting some amount of control over her composure. Forcing saliva back down to discourage her stomach from returning its contents to the outside world, she tried to look inside. After all, the blood seemed fresh. That could mean somebody needed help, and she could not let her anxieties get the better of her and potentially kill someone in the process.

Everything about the situation seemed sketchy and suspiciuous, and this amplified those feelings by one-hundred times. It took all her might to stop herself from turning or running away, but her parents didn’t raise a coward. No matter what, she would force herself to look. ”Is there someone in there? Do they need help?”

Before Kasumi finished talking, Berry already made her way over to the woman who clutched the gaping wound on her stomach. When she had a patient, the Everett assumed a disposition that was isolated from her normal emotions. To provide the best treatment possible, one needed to be calm. Avoiding agitating the wound, making rational decisions, and not throwing up on the victim were all crucial to their survival. In turn, every doctor had a switch they struck that momentarily disabled their aversion to the grotesque, formed over years of experience in the field.

”Don’t worry–everything’s going to be okay, miss,” she lead, and gently-yet-firmly moved her hands away from the injury. She would take a moment to assess the damage, and from the looks of it, she might have been too late had she been a regular doctor. Not only did she not have the tools required within her immediate grasp to sterilize and or commit to an impromptu surgery, but it would take too long to get to a place where she had those instruments. Thus, she used the restorative magic she was blessed with—Sky Dragon Slaying magic. What a misnomer in her case.

Hovering her hands above the damaged site, her hands exuded a soft glow. Magic proving to be extremely strong in restoration, she disinfected, mended, and diminished the pain in a moment’s time. The soothing glow rapidly renewed the injury, not even leaving a scar in its wake as flesh was bound back together.
