Were they scouring for food? Looking for a way in, perhaps? Whichever it was, none of it seemed to be applicable to the feral creature that had a strange aura about it. There's a reason why most people avoided it, instead choosing to hire outside help to finally rid their city of the cursed beast.[break][break] Supposedly, Cheshire was to have a partner in this mission, and for that she was glad. The person could be a total stranger for all she cared, she just didn't have the confidence to fight this out alone. It was decided ahead of time that their rendezvous point would be around the wall - on the inside, of course. So it'd be best if the two could meet up and familiarize themselves with one another's magic and come up with a plan of attack before taking that thing head-on.[break][break] And so, there she was. Dressed in full winter gear that consisted of a thick jacket made of synthetic fur, a couple layers of leggings underneath a knee-length skirt that kept most of her underside warm, a scarf wrapped around her neck and a hoodie, keeping her ears nice and snug within. A pair of wooly winter mittens and leathery snow boots completed the set. Naturally, she was all decked out in white, purple and black - three of her favorite colors. [break][break] The feline stood around the exit where they'd finally start their mission, and it'd likely take them a good few minutes of wandering around before they encounter the beast. Orion was late. He was never late. This was an exception. That was an outright lie. Orion had not always been the stickler for rules. After all, he believed his roguish appeal needed to be cultivated. The man had decided to drink the night before, and it had taken him just a bit too long to get up today. He knew he was making a bad decision when he challenged those two men to a drink-off. He was never good at making good decisions.
It was supposed to be a kill mission. They said it was a wolf of some kind. A beast so fierce that they needed mages of a guild to fight it; not alone either. A team, they had said it was going to be. A team of two. Orion never worked well in a team, but he will try his best, if not for the rewards, then for his survival. There had to be a reason why they had requested more than a solo mage for this one.
"Wait, you?" Orion gawked at his supposed partner, all bundled up from the cold weather the area was experiencing. The lightning god slayer had opted to for his usual attire, especially since when in combat, extra layers would only get in the way.
"So, Cheshire, you ready to beat this monster?" The man grinned, cracking his knuckles as he finally got himself into the groove. "They say its some sort of animal." He commented offhandedly, before gesturing towards the exit, "Shall we go then? I feel like this might take a bit." Orion had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach, and usually his gut was right. Or maybe it was just the drinks last night still upsetting him. Either way, he was eager to finish the mission and get back to more drinking.

In Cheshire's case though, she just wanted out of this weather as soon as she possibly could. There's lots of cats out there that enjoyed such weather. Admittedly, it wasn't all that bad, even if she knew it could at times escalate to a devastating blizzard. The sad part about all this was that it made her feel comfortable, which in turn kind of made her sleepy, and she was just about to doze off while standing up had the familiar presence of her partner not showed up.[break][break] Of all the people in the world, she was to have this drunkard as a companion for the rest of her mission. Granted, she's heard of his ancient magic - never actually seen it in action per se, but if words are to be believed, he isn't a slouch on the battlefield. Hopefully, his thirst for combat rivaled that of.. well, his thirst. "Big bad wolf. Not a favorite of mine, admittedly, but if it pays, it pays."[break][break] Cheshire gave a signal to the guards, and the only set of doors on the large wall would be pried open. As soon as the duo took their first steps away from civilization, the doors that quickly shut behind them were an indication that they're now in dangerous territory. Wild beasts roamed the land, but if her guesses proved correct, the presence of a strong alpha repelled that of the others. There's going to be days where the citizens of Gabbro City would have to shift their worries onto some other creatures that more commonly roamed the place. Until then, their only worry lies with the two mages and whether or not they could finish the job.[break][break] Trudging through the eerily quiet snow, the feline kept her eyes and ears peeled for any signs of strange movements. For now though, there'd be nothing. Only a peaceful landscape with an equally beautiful view of the mountains on the horizon, and the ends of a giant frozen lake a long way ahead. A few things did catch her attention, bringing her back to reality and shattering the visage of calmness, and it took the form of rotted bones that were partially buried underneath the snow, scattered across the fields of white at random points. There's no doubt in her mind that they were closing in. The question now is, were they already being watched? "You know, I kinda get bad feelings about things all the time. This thing though? Orion nodded, "Pay is pay," he whispered to himself, as he followed in the wake of his partner for the mission. He had almost made a joke about a fancy seeing you type of scenario, be kept his mouth shut. There were times when he ran his mouth too much, and this was not the time. A Dire Wolf was not to be taken lightly. It had, after all, scared the living hell out of Gabbro City, who was known for hunting beasts for food around their own territory. If this was something that even those beast hunters thought to be fearsome, then it was extremely dangerous.
There was something amiss in the air. It was subtle, but Orion could feel the shifts within the elements. The birds were gone, the small critters were nowhere to be seen, and the forest hummed with anticipation. It had been awhile since Orion had seen this kind of natural phenomena. It meant something was coming. Something big, something bad, and something very very dangerous.
"Hold." Orion whispered heatedly, a small sound catching his attention. It was there, to his left, maybe fifty meters away. Sleeping, or was it chewing on something? Its head was moving sideways, as though trying to tear something. Red. Splattered red around the Dire Wolf was the only indication that the animal had been feeding. It was distracted. This was the perfect opportunity.
"I'll take lead. Flank it. We'll catch it off-guard and take the advantage," Orion's face turned serious, brow was scrunched and lip became a thin line. It was now or never, and he wasn't going to dilly-dally. A free shot was a free shot, after all.
"Lightning God's Bellow!"
Orion inhaled, molding lightning magic into his lungs, before releasing it in a stream of black towards the Dire Wolf.

Besides, playing second fiddle to one of Cait Shelter's best warriors meant that she might've been able to learn a thing or two regarding the more advanced teachings Master Koji bestowed to his disciples. [break][break] Things only seemed to escalate from that point onward, as the duo did not make it that far before the god slayer of lightning noticed a strange sighting - a wolf, possibly resting - no, it was munching on its latest prey, spewing blood and guts that tainted the snowy white around its vicinity. Admittedly, it was a good time to strike while it remained distracted by its meal, but something did feel.. off.[break][break] The direwolf, almost as though it was equipped with its own spider-sense, jumped to life and hurled the animal carcass along with a barrage of bloodied snow towards its first attacker. A loud yelp followed by a menacing snarl signified that the attack did land, fortunately enough. [break][break] Taking the opportunity to potentially land a strike of her very own, Cheshire jumped into action. Unlike her partner though, she didn't feel the need to yell out the names of her spells - far too corny of a thing for her to do, and blasted out a wave of shadows from her extended palms. The creature was struck twice. Once from Orion, and another from Cheshire. It had been wounded, both physically and emotionally. It had pride, after all. As the alpha of the surrounding forests, it had a reputation to uphold, and it was not going to let some humans take it down so easily.
With a roar, it attacked. Cold winds blew around the creature, and Orion could only watch as the attack was formed and sent towards him. He had to stay his ground, especially since he had taken point in this mission. For once, he was not going to dodge. The advantage of having a team mate was that one can distract, while the other slowly depleted the monster's health. He was the distraction this time around.
Wind. Freezing cold, was sent straight barreling towards Orion. He needed to keep the wolf busy. He trusted Cheshire to do the smart thing right now. She needed to try and attack it once more.
Then it charged as well, taking Orion by surprise. A freezing attack of some kind, and it's claws coming straight at him. What else could go wrong today? Good thing Cheshire seemed to have blinded the beast, making it more erratic and hopefully less accurate.
Summary: Orion braced for the Icy Breath Condition Attack, and a straight-up attack from the Dire Wolf. Since it was blinded it missed the Freeze Breath but lands the regular attack on Orion (two rolls, lowest taken). It has now suffered through its BLIND condition one out of three turns.

The wolf was an alpha predator, not accustomed to being placed in a situation where it had to fight for its life. Perhaps it had gotten a bit too soft, or perhaps she was underestimating its abilities. Whichever it may be, the faster they'd wrap this up, the better.[break][break] Call it a stroke of luck or call it fate, their target seemed to have it in for Orion, leaving Cheshire completely open to doing whatever it is she wanted. He could've been perceived as the stronger threat among the two, but it's not like she gave much of a crap about their status. All she cared about were the windows of opportunities that came her way, and with what remained of its sights set on the slayer of gods, she'd once again resort to using the same technique as before. A little less flashy when spammed twice in a row, but did it really matter if it had the same effectiveness? Still, if there's anything she'd need to be careful of, it'd be overspending her reserves. Using two of these blasts one after the other would do a number on almost any mage around her skill level, and she was already breaking a sweat because of it.[break][break] Orion was a big strong boy, he'd be able to handle whatever came his way. Well, at least she hoped he did, for his own sake. They probably had a good doctor back in the wall which, thankfully, wasn't all that far away. Ah well, tis' but a flesh wound. The Dire Wolf took another hit from Cheshire, and Orion knew that something will be different this time around. The wolf had jumped back, away from both Orion and Cheshire, putting itself in across from the two. The area around the wolf had been devastated by the fight, so there was literally nowhere to run or hide. The once forest-are now looked like a barren field.
"Fuckin' hell, what's it doing now?" Orion watched the wolf, its eyes glaring holes at both him and Cheshire. Orion had now positioned himself near Cheshire, so they can at least communicate. The Dire Wolf might be weakened now, but it was a still a threat, something both Orion and Cheshire should not underestimate.
With a nod, Orion proceeded with their original. Orion will bait, and Cheshire will deal the heavy-hitter damage. Despite being an attack-based wizard, Orion would rather put himself in danger than any of his comrades. It was a foolish thing to do.
"Eclipse!" Black lightning formed around his sword, and with a slash, it was sent hurling towards the Dire Wolf.
The Dire Wolf's eyes glowed, and Orion could only watch in shock as it moved at an insane speed, making his attack completely miss.

If the duo thought it ended there, they'd be sadly mistaken. Not only did it successfully dodge an attack, the creature also kept charging forward, slowing down as it went on, but at a speed that was still fast enough to potentially catch them off guard, either lunging its claws or tackling them head-on.[break][break] In the short window of time that the two had to react, Cheshire's reflex kicked in, and she almost rolled to the side out of instinct and impulse. Hopefully, she'd be able to avoid the collision altogether. If not, she'd at least have her arms crossed out in front of her, protecting her chest and the vital organs that laid within should she suffer its wrath. The beast was getting desperate, and even through its blinded eyes, made a move that showed little regard to its own safety, as it now had its sights solely set on taking them down and tearing them to shreds, removing flesh from bone.[break][break] HP: 205 | MP: 70[break] ATK: 13[break]

Orion took the blow. He had no choice at all. The wolf was fast, and Orion was not so fast. A charge and a claw swipe, one hit Orion and he fell backwards. Pain shot through Orion once more, even more now than the first hit he took from the wolf.
"Cheshire, you alright?" Orion did not wait for a reply, after seeing the woman already recovering from the attack. If there was one thing Orion can say about his partner, it's that she never wastes time.
With a rush, Orion finally got himself together and took a swipe at the Dire Wolf.
"Eclipse!"
Lightning coursed through his sword, and within seconds, it was sent straight towards the wolf. Seeing Orion charge, it had opened its jaws, sending another wave of bone-chilling Icy Breath towards the God Slayer and his partner.
Summary: Orion took the hit, and sent one of his own. The Dire Wolf also sends his Icy Breath attack, this time using it in AOE form towards Orion and Cheshire.

Not only was this beast able to completely avoid one of the male's attacks, but it had used its momentum from the same maneuver and moved right into pouncing on them. That was some shit right there.[break][break] Still, she'd been through worse. The beast was unrelenting though, now effectively cured of its blindness - not that it helped the duo that much in any regards anyway, it used another one of its attacks, spraying an icy breath straight towards them in an arc, planning for a two-for-one takedown. Unfortunately for the direwolf, the two did successfully manage to get themselves out of harm's way, with Cheshire dodging to the side and using the terrain as obstacles to shield herself from its wrath.[break][break] Once that's dealt with, the feline sprung into action once more, with the intention of using the wounded beast's shadow against itself. From where the sun shone, it gave the wolf a shadow angled in the ten o'clock region. Not a bad spot, she just wished it could've been directly underneath where it stood for maximum effectiveness. Tendrils would begin sprouting from its shadow, and before it could even notice their presence, they'd start lashing out like an endless barrage of whips, and for a moment, she thought she could even hear whimpers coming from the predatorial canine. The Dire Wolf was hit once again, and it was very pissed off now. Orion could see it in its eyes. Red. Pulsing. Wild. Savage. Orion was not one to face death in the face, but this wolf was another thing altogether. His wounds were superficial, and Orion knew they were slowly winning against the beast, but the beast did not seem to be one to stay idle as it was slain.
"Cheshire, one more time!" Orion roared, having Cheshire do their usual tactic of bait-and-attack. He, himself, while injured, was still ready to fight. He had not been having the best of luck today with his attacks, so his next best was to be the one to tank while his partner went on the offensive.
He had hoped that Cheshire had heard him, because at that point, Orion threw himself forwards and roared out loud. It wasn't necessary at the moment, but Cheshire certainly appreciated the gesture, and the fact that they're not moving in for the kill meant that they were recognizing the strength of the two warriors.[break][break] Turning her attention back on the wounded direwolf, the feline braced for an attack after her partner voluntarily took one for the team, blocking and attempting to stop it from advancing forward. Claws met with flesh and bone, but the male held his own. If the beast was at full strength, she didn't think this would be possible. Now that they've almost killed it, she did feel a tinge of sadness. It's unfortunate that it had come all this way from the woods where it truly belonged, but for the deeds that it has done, she would gladly try to put it out of its misery.[break][break] Now that Orion and the beast collided, their shadows joined together in a strange-shaped mass, and directly from underneath the wolf, a structure reminiscent of an iceberg rose, attempting to skewer the direwolf. If successful, it would alleviate the pressure of its test of strength battle with the God Slayer. Orion felt the beast leap off of him, roaring in agony as it went. The shadowy masses that seemed to retract from the beast had surely been Cheshire's, which meant that the beast had been hit once more, and now was on its last legs. Truly, since the Dire Wolf's legs seem to be really bloodied at this point, and Orion was quite surprised that it was still able to stand its ground.
One more.
Orion held his katana in a reverse-grip, before using the earth beneath him as a springboard, launching himself towards the Dire Wolf.
"Eclipse!"
The lightning magic was sent towards their enemy, but to no avail. The Dire Wolf, sensing danger, once again moved at an inhuman speed. It seems that it had recovered enough to use one of its more powerful spells, dodging Orion's Eclipse once more, making the god slayer curse in frustration.
Summary: Orion sent a spell at the wolf, the Dire Wolf uses Insane Speed and is immune to damage until the next turn.

Honestly, she knew that eliminating the creature would lead to the betterment of everyone affected by its presence, though she wished she could somehow transport it back to its original habitat. It isn't likely that these thoughts could be conveyed to the dying direwolf, as it was after all, a lost animal, just as she was at one point in her life.[break][break] While it utilized that maneuver once more, speeding and zooming through Orion's attacks, it didn't have that same oomph as before. It is likely that the beast could still dodge anything she'd throw at it, but the excessive whimpering of pain and confusion that came from its direction was complete utter depression fuel for her, to the point where she had to look away, wiping the little beads of tears that had formed on either corners of her eyes.[break][break] Unlike before where it still had the tenacity of running right towards them, it couldn't this time. After its absolute shield had absolved, the direwolf was barely able to stand. Every slight movement caused its hindlegs to collapse, and it was ridden to the once snowy ground, now drenched in red from the wounds it had sustained by the hands of the two magicians.[break][break] "You do it.." She turned her head, barely able to face the pathetic face of the once-proud creature, hoping that her partner would spare her of delivering the final deed, even though it had endangered the lives of so many and taken just as much.
