Quinn stared at the woman who called out to him. If he was being honest with himself, he would say that she looked breathtaking. And the cat ears accentuated her image. He felt a blush coming onto him, which he tried his best to push down. He was on a mission, and he had to act professional.
But wait, cat ears?
"Uhm...hello..." Quinn stammered, glancing once again at Cheshire's cat ears, "You're not Tora right?" Quinn knew he was supposed to be looking for a cat, but then the cat might be a cat-girl? He wasn't sure anymore, his face scrunching in thought, "I mean..." He waited for her response, not really sure what to think of the situation anymore.

MISSION NAME: tora, the cat
CLIENT: madame shijimi
CHARACTERS: Quinn Stormgarde Cheshire Copeland
MISSION BRIEFING: while visiting with her merchant husband, madame shijimi lost track of her elusive cat! track tora down for the madame and receive a handsome reward!
Quinn had just started to do missions. He really wasn't sure if he was ready, but he deliberately chose an easy mission: to find a missing cat. Apparently the cat, Tora, had been missing for a few days now, and while there were sighting of him or her, the people in the village were unable to catch the creature. The cat was agile, and Quinn hoped his Take Over magic would be good enough.
Plus he will have a partner for this one!
"Where are they..." Quinn looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the man or woman he was going to be working with. They really gave no description, except to wait by the town's edge. He was here now, and he hoped they would show up soon.

Yes! We should get Quinn and her introduced for sure! Quinn is new, still discovering his potential, and kind of lost, so forgive him! But he's a friendly chap who's always willing to help, to the point where people sometimes take advantage of him...

"Boar is good though!" Quinn had his fair share of boar meet, and he can definitely say that he enjoyed it as much as any deer they catch. "Can be very tough, but if you cook it right...magnificent!" he snapped his finger at the end, making a point of boar meat's deliciousness.
Quinn smiled, "It was good company! We had a great talk, I think," in terms of receiving payment, Quinn shook his head, "No payment necessary. One day if I'm hungry, you can buy me food instead." He smiled, before getting up. "Time to go, I think. You can go ahead, I'll settle the bill. You must have important things to do as a wizard of Odin's Spear!" Quinn waved the man good-naturedly, not wanting to keep him any longer.

Quinn's money would be tight, but his generosity was a bit more boundless. He was never one to turn down a friend, or a potential friend, which was his eventual downfall, if he was being serious about it. The problem had always been that he could never seem to say no when there was a good deed to be had. So another serving it is!
"Still, can't be good for you, right? I mean," Quinn paused for a moment, "You do eat more than just rats everyday, right?"
"I mean, deer is fine, it's a bit more nutritious for sure, but..." Quinn paused, "You're right, I can't judge until I try it though." And yeah, he was never going to judge because he was never going to try it. "Good food, good company, I can't ask for anything else." Quinn grinned finishing the last of his stew.

Quinn enjoyed the food, he enjoyed it so much that he had already ordered for a second serving. The barkeep was more than happy to oblige, and Quinn could swear he saw money bags on the man's eyes as he took the order. He knew that the beef stew was good, it seems, and had been hoping for people to buy quite a bit of it.
"That's good! Glad you're liking it!" Quinn had gotten his second serving at this point, "Order one more if you want. I can't deprive you of such delicacy..." He trailed off, taking a whiff of the beef stew and immediately salivated.
Quinn took the first few bites once again, before looking up at Rex, "Rats? Oh man, that can;t be good." Definitely not something that meets dietary needs, nor did it seem sanitary, "Is that what you usually eat?" He was part of a guild, surely, he had more than enough money from missions to eat better.

"'Course we eat 'em!" Quinn salivating at the thought of the wolf meat they had just last week, "They're very good, gamey, but the meat can be very tender as long as you know how to cook it!" The master of Nemean Claw definitely knew how to cook the game they brought back.
"Odin Spear, huh?" Quinn thought for a moment, "Sounds like a tough crew. Don't know who Odin is either, he sounds like a tough guy though."
The beef stew arrived, and as promised by its scent, it tasted heavenly. "So good! This almost tastes better than the manticore we had a few weeks back!" He glanced at Rex, "How is it? Is it good?"

"Beef stew it is!" Quinn chuckled, raising his hand to get the barkeep's attention, "Two beef stews on this table, charge it to my room, my good man!" His stomach growled, and Quinn had to suppress his hunger. The beef stew's smell invaded the restaurant part of the inn once again, and Quinn was reminded how hungry he was, especially after a long journey from Gabbro.
The metal seemed cold to Quinn. Cold and emotionless. One can say the same about the stones around Gabbro, but Quinn begged to differ. Stone, while cold, felt more natural. Metals were natural, true, but there was something that made Quinn shiver in apprehension at the thought of being surrounded by it twenty-four seven.
"Gabbro is a stone city!" Quinn replied with a grin, "Strong, sturdy, and protected. Gabbro is a bastion against monsters, you see. The ones crawling outside our walls are killed and roasted!" There was a triumphant glint in Quinn's eyes, always proud of his city and Nemean Claw, the guild-restaurant. Speaking of guilds, The guild here, what's the name of it again?"

"Nice table, Quinn smirked, having passed by some very sticky-looking ones. The place was good enough, it did not have class, but it certainly had personality. A rough personality. Just like Shale Town, if Quinn was being honest.
"I think I'm grabbing the beef stew they have cooking back there," Quinn paused for a moment, before asking, "What do you want? Anything at all, as thanks for helping me!" The smile never left his face, genuinely happy to repay the person who helped him out.
Life was an interesting journey, and Quinn knew its better to make friends than enemies. Plus, he was a new mage! And any connections he made right now might be beneficial in the long run! "Is the whole city this rough?" The question came out accidentally, but was something already on his mind for a while now.

Quinn shrugged, "I mean sure, you're right about that," thinking for a moment, he continued, "I'd be more scared of the ones who can blow up a city, especially since you'll never know when they strike." The nonchalance of the comment made it a bit weird, but Quinn just smiled. It was true, potential was scarier, because you can never be prepared for something you don't know.
"Rex it is!" Quinn replied happily, before coming upon the inn that was supposed to house himself for the night. It was...not the best looking, but it certainly was not the worst that Quinn had stayed in. The place was good enough, especially for only an overnight stay.
Quinn opened the doors for both of them, letting Rex go in first, "Grab us a seat, let me settle my room first then I'll be right with you!" The wafting smell was enticing, roast beef if Quinn was not mistaken. He couldn't salivate a bit, but shook his head and went straight for the barkeep. Room first, and then food.

"I'm glad you've never heard of me," Quinn laughed out loud, "It seems as though those who make a name for themselves these days are always on the wrong side of the moral line, you know?" There was some truth in it, where notoriety bred more respect than anything else. It seems the world had fallen far off the deep end after the Calamity. To heal it will take quite a bit of effort. Quinn wanted to be a part of that effort.
"Nice to meet you, Rex! Can I call you Rex?" The Take-Over mage was still not sure how he should approach this man, but he'll do his best. He was helping him after all, and that deserved some sort of reward.
"Say, are you by chance hungry? I was going to grab some grub, and since you're helping me," Quinn scratched the back of his head, "Well, I wanted to return the favour by buying you a meal? How does that sound?" To be honest, Quinn wouldn't mind the company. His journey had been lonely, and a friendly face might just make this trek worth it.

Quinn sweat-dropped as he listened to the young man speak. He was odd. Not in a bad way, but in an uncomfortable way, where most people probably would avoid him instinctively. Not Quinn, he didn't mind much, especially since he's seen his fair share of weird in Gabbro.
"Yeah, lost. Hm, I don't have much, just enough for room and board, some meals and a few drinks too!" Quinn replied happily, stepping in line with the man as he walked towards someplace. He seemed to know where he was going, so Quinn would follow diligently. It wasn't as if he couldn't defend himself when the situation needs it. But, the man did not seem to be a threat at all. Maybe he's even invite the man for a drink.
"Oh hey, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Quinn!" Quinn smiled widely at the man still walking beside him, "Quinn Stormgarde." He held out his hand for a shake.

Quinn was bored, and he had made a decision to wander into Shale Town. He had heard quite a bit about this settlement, which was very different from Gabbro. Unlike Gabbro, this city was metallic. Very metallic. He was used to the stone-aesthetic of Gabbro, and the sheer amount of metal in this settlement was quite daunting.
"Kind of blinding in the sun," Quinn made his observation known, his thoughts usually said out loud. He was not the most inconspicuous person, but he can when he wanted to be.
It seems he had wandered quite a bit, and soon, he found himself lost. And being lost in a new and different city was never good. He found someone though, someone a bit interesting looking. But anybody would be fine, as long as they can help him.
"Excuse me, I was wondering if you might know where the closest inn is? I seem to be a bit...ah...lost." |
