First, he heard the mutated creatures, an unwelcome intrusion to his ears as their distant cries and mocking screams travelled from the hills nearby. When he looked over to the clear skies, he could see a flock of winged, grey beasts circling the land in the distance. Thankfully they stayed well away from the townspeople for now, but they had been picking at cattle and flying off with them, and it wouldn't be long until they started putting people on the menu.
Sovereign was yet to decide what he'd do with these creatures, as he needed to gauge their strength still. Either they were weak enough for him to dispose of them completely, or he'd just have to scare them off to bother someone else. If that was the case, he'd then just have another town request the same job, which meant more money for him and a problem for someone else. Not too bad of an idea, he thought.
"What's your name?" He'd ask without looking at his partner for this mission, staring out at the flock while he held a hand on his mace.
