MISSION NAME: that fish looks dead CLIENT: Protection of Magical Creatures Society, The Black Market CHARACTERS: solo MISSION BRIEFING: A group of people have formed the 'Protection of Magical Creatures Society', aiming to locate and preserve all kinds of animals to help boost the population of rare species and conserve wildlife to prevent them going extinct. Since the Calamity 70+ years ago, nobody knows just how many species of creatures we have lost, but this group believes to have found a very rare mammal known as a Piki-Rijura, a large fish that has the ability to swim and breathe through air. Not only this, but it has he power to dive into the land of the dead and is often seen accompanied by spirits of the departed. Groups have gone on expeditions to locate the creature for many reasons: preservation, repopulation, harness control of spirits etc. Sovereign has been asked to retrieve it first as it would fetch a pretty penny to the right buyers. Sovereign had visited Adakite Island once with an old friend, someone who he hasn't seen in many years now. He remembered it being hot and humid, with nothing but overgrown flora swamping his vision and tangling around his body. he tried to recall how long ago the trip was, but his memory always seemed to be a blur during the time he lived with all his family. Perhaps it was so traumatic to think back to then that his mind had blocked it all out, 'That would be nice.' he thought, smiling to himself.
After arriving by boat, Sovereign instantly saw the huge groups of people lining the shore. Various guilds, various bands of wannabe scientists and people who thought they were bettering the world. And with what? A fish that could talk to ghosts? He scoffed at them, walking softly across the sand accompanied by two of his duplicates. These people merely ignored the true peril of Earthlands ruined society, turning a blind eye to people starving on the streets and needing shelter. They poured resources into useless discoveries such as this, could they not first help the people that made this world before interfering with the flow of nature? After all, the calamity seems to have given Mother Nature the boost it needed. Allowing it to flourish and overgrow ancient human settlements and its population.

Sovereign's plan was to head straight into the jungle, with nothing but his magic and his mace. But he was rudely interrupted by a young scientist with a monocle rested between his brow and cheek. Probably for show, his duplicates whispered, like two legendary crows of wisdom perched on each shoulder.
"Ah, welcome to Adakite! Which group are you venturing with into the island? I just need to take a name and a few details to add to the list, so we can make sure everyone is safe and have you down as an official visitor." They were overly chirpy, and wagged a pencil around before tapping it on a wooden clipboard as they smiled at Sovereign, clearly unfazed by his body doubles and mask.
Sovereign was surprised at how forward he was, and looked down at him even though he was the same height as this man. "Bold of you to assume I'm travelling with others." He grinned, "Can't you see I already have company?"
He was of course referring to the constructions of his own magic, the scientist looked up with a confused expression and looked between all three Sovereigns. Smiling nervously, he would shake his head and further insist on taking a name and details, "Ah I see, but please allow me to write down some information about yourself, I-"
"A concerned citizen of Earthland, will that do?" All three spoke at once, their smile growing more uncomfortable to look at by the second.

Growing tired of pointless chatter with the man, Sovereign needn't wait around or reply to him further and the three would walk forwards. They care not if they had to push him out the way, but thankfully the glorified ecowarrior would step aside and nervously look around for help. Luckily, there were so many people here all too busy with their own business to notice the three men barge through.
Waltzing across the beach like they owned the place, Sovereign would enter the thick boundary of the jungle, practically having to put all his weight into the foliage to get through the first hurdle of dense greenery. Leaves the size of cows would push against him, and ivy would reach down and tug at his arms, the jungle practically fighting against his entry.
It took a lot of forceful work for the first few minutes, but he eventually battled his way through, the grip of nature loosening its clutch as the pup of Quatro Cerberus found less resistance against his form. "Finally, I think we are welcome now."
There wasn't much of a clearing anywhere, more so small patches of emptiness that he would use as a footpath, stepping over roots as high as his shins and ducking under spiky branches. It would be impossible to locate the creature at this pace, so the guild master clasped his hands together as if he were to pray, and more and more clones would begin to emerge from wherever they could. All would be given the same command, but for different places.
"Search for the creature." All would say, fifty voices booming within the jungle as they then darted off in different directions.

His senses blurred, his mind becoming overly scattered that he couldn't properly share all information with every Sovereign. The real one was like the main hub, all thoughts, sights and sounds being fed through him before being sent out to all the others. It was a constant stream of data, but it was difficult to maintain. In order to have such a large number of clones active at a time, Sovereign needed as much focus and concentration as he could. He decided to sit on a large tree root, resting his head back against the trunk and closing his eyes. He'd sink his fingers into the soil and steady his breathing. It was dizzying at first, but he had to filter out the useless information and separate each duplicate's senses. "Where are you." He whispered to himself, seeing visions of blurred trees and mud. They had already ventured far, their bodies composed of ethernano making it easier for them to traverse the dense jungle as they could simply pass through small plants and vines. Already, he felt the connection to some of them lost, probably ran into a carnivorous plant that seemed to populate most of this treacherous jungle. It didn't matter too much, however, since there were plenty of Sovereigns to carry on the search. h̴̪̙̬̻͐̓é̴̫̲̼̮͊ŕ̵̻̦̮͗̎̕e̵̯͆ p̵̨̧̨̨̤̣̻͖̮̻̝̪͕̲̬̬̲̭̣̄̍̽͌̏̆̑̂̍̍͒̆͑̿͂́̌̃̓́͜r̶̩̜̝̳̯̣̻̼͔̝̦͇̥̠̝̬̆͒̈́͆́̽̒́̀̾͐̓̚͘ė̵͎̙̻͕̭̭̞̯̖̱̮̆̀̈́̍͆͌̓̈̓̇̕͘̕͝ͅv̷̨̱̼̲̦̼͇̾̈͋͜͜i̸̧̟͕̭̣̠̼̝͇̪̘̠̼͍͐͂͊̈́̽́͠o̸̡̦̗͎͕̬̹̳̟͍̗̟̥̱̘̮̥̽̈́͗͒̚ͅū̵̧̠̼͔̙̣̽̈͊͊̀s̴̰͓̥̹̗̺͔̝͎̤̋̎͜͠ ̷̡̢̱̘̪̯͖͈̖̩̿̀͐̌̇͋̈̆̌̆̋́̋̅̎͘ͅm̶̪̹͓̜̺̜̘̌̑̅̇͑̆̌̃͆̑̍̽̚͜͝ā̷̼̰͆̐͒̌̍͐̾͌͋͂̆̿̈́̕͠ŗ̷̧̨̟̱͇͉̹̪͎̦̤̹̩͎̗̭͚̺͑̒͂͊̂́k̶̛̺̳͇͓̮̝̦̜͓̿̃̈́̈͂̑̄̿̃̒̓́͑i̴͍͇̱͕͎̺̟̲̜͍͙͙̊͂̍̈́͆̎̀́̇̏́̔͐̇͘̚͝n̵̬̳̠̯͇͙͙̼̩͈̦͕̪͍͌́̇̄͑̈́͑̈́̓̓̈́͑͛̓̕͜͜g̵̢̡̦̥͇̹̣̟͈̰̙̹̤̳̗̭̺̰̞͆̎̿̔̂̈́̎͆͊̈́͂̈̕͘͠ͅs̶͉̺͙͓̫̯̮̹͇͉͕͚̝̽̾̆̃̓
t̴h̶e̸ ̷l̸a̴s̶t̶ ̷s̶i̶g̷h̴t̶i̸n̴g̴?̶ He focussed in on a few clones, spotting visions of little flag poles to signify where the MCP Society had last located signs of the magic fish. That was the best place to search, so he ordered all clones to scout the area North of him instead. All the while, the real Sovereign would begin to make his way there too.

Eventually, he came to the spotted location, where posts had been put up and little areas bordered with red ribbons. A few Sovereigns searched the immediate vicinity, picking up a few bits of paper that had been pinned to trees with notes on the sighted death fish.
"Size varies, reason unknown... Slightly transparent... Easier to spot at night." He read it all out loud, then shouted to another Sovereign, "Anyone read anything about where we could find it?"
"This one says it's attracted to death."
"Great, well I don't really plan on killing anyone to lure a fish out."
They all stopped and looked at each other, knowing full well that was a lie. But he hoped that he would be able to save the energy for another time, since he already had loads of clones scanning the forest jungle out. So far, none had found any signs of a floating necromancer fish, but how hard could it be to spot something like that?
"Uh, Sov." He got a tap on the shoulder from a clone, "I think we got company."
Turning around, about six Sovereigns would soon be facing a small group of people with adventuring equipment piled on their backs. They all looked very confused, and nobody really knew what to say. There was about a minute of awkward silence as the two groups faced one another.
"So..."

Although confused and a little wary of all the men who looked exactly the same, members of the exploration group would start barking out questions like "What are you doing here?", "Where's your group?" and "Why are there so many of you?!"
Shrugging, Sovereign merely waved a hand in dismissal as he shook his head at all the questions. "The same reason you're here for. The fish, duh."
Offended that someone such as he would be looking for such a legendary creature, a few of them gasped or got riled up by his careless response. Although they may have been smart and known more about the creatures here than he did, they didn't seem to be overly strong, at least the majority anyway. It looked like there was a couple guys who were the muscle of this expedition. Two guys who already wanted a fight.
"Don't worry, I'll leave now." They'd gather in the clearing, collecting all the papers and notes that were left behind, "I'm taking these too."
When they turned around to leave, he felt a strong grip on his shoulder. When he looked behind him, he saw one of the brainless brutes towering over him, flexing his muscles and gritting his teeth.
"You're not going anywh-"
His body was flung back, black magic spiralling around him as it made the sound of muffled whispers and screams, coiling around the larger man's body as it slammed him against a nearby tree, snapping it slightly. The Sovereign's stood in their original position, still and silent as their masks glowed white. "Don't touch us."
Not wanting to waste any more time, they'd quickly make their leave in the direction of a few tracks his clones had picked up. He half wanted to bring the other guy with him as bait, but that would mean he would indeed have to kill him, and it seemed a little pointless at this moment.

Sovereign had many notes, a few scribbled maps and trails, and eyes scattered all around the jungle. He knew which areas to avoid due to his clones being attacked by jungle life, and which pathways were easier to walk down. This mission was going to be a breeze.
After thirty minutes of walking, he had come to a part of the island which seemed a lot darker in comparison to the lush emerald flora before. The leaves seemed darker, less light came through the canopy, and the soil was always damp when he felt it. Looking around, he'd see the carcass of a large beast, some kind of feline predator. At closer inspection, it was safe to say it had been there a while, it's ribcage completely visible and its face impossible to identify.
Then, another clone spotted the corpse of a large bird, practically the size of the trees around him. In fact, when he took the time to focus on his surroundings, he'd find bones and dead things all around him. It was impossible for them to be here at the same time of death, or be killed by the same creature, so had they willingly chosen to die here?
"It's a graveyard." The Sovereign's whispered to themselves, each at a different corpse, "But why here?"
It was perfectly on cue, the world grew darker and light became broken rays from the moon above. How peculiar, he could have sworn he hadn't been in the jungle for that long. Sovereign looked around, seeing if he could spot anything other than dead bodies...

Lights began to flicker in the distance, appearing amidst the trees as it slowly moved around him. It eventually all gathered in one spot, two white spheres staring at him through the darkness as a spotlight shone down on the corpses of the dead animals, moving from each one. There was then a haunting moan, and the sound of running water could be heard all around him, but there was no signs of it anywhere. Then suddenly, the fish he had been looking for swam out from the trees, soaring peacefully through the air. His ears popped a few times, before all sounds around him were muffled like he was underwater. He could still breathe, and move around like normal, but something about the air just seemed quite odd. The Piki-Rijura didn't care much for Sovereign, swimming over him as if he wasn't there. Instead, it glided over the skeletal remains and rotting carcasses, making them shimmer with white light for a brief second. Being torn from physical bodies were the spirits of these fallen beasts, their ghostly images rising from the dead as they soared up into the sky with the Piki-Rijura, treating it like an old friend. The ghosts of these animals were large and ferocious, yet they cared little for anything but flying away with the fish. Following the guide into the spirit world.

The creature seemed so docile, so harmless. All it was doing was gathering lost souls of the dead to help pass them over to a better life. But still, if it got into the wrong hands, this could be used for all kinds of devilish purposes. Raising the dead, black magic, entering the realm of the dead. It was all 'dead', nothing good came from that.
It was painful to do, but he came here with an objective in mind, and he had to see it through. The fish would be better of dead than in the hands of scientists and explorers.
As it swam up into the sky, towards the moon followed by a line of other spirits, Sovereign and his clones would hold out his arms to the sky. He was no longer smiling, but frowning instead.
"...Black Hymn."
His magic swelled up, the sound of a distant choir could be heard as the black energy spiralled around the ground, lapping up more ethernano like a rising tide before firing off towards the spirit fish. It tore through the other spirits, and surrounded the Piki-Rijura as it burnt and ripped away at its ethereal body.
In that moment, it let out a deafening cry of pain, making Sovereign cover his ears as a blinding burst of light exploded up above.

It was a tough mission, not in the sense that it put him in danger, but he felt morally conflicted. It was a shame such a beautiful creature had to be slain due to the ignorant and selfish people of this world. He didn't want to take any risks of keeping it alive, he didn't trust society to care and protect such a precious and powerful beast.
Sovereign had managed to arrange transportation for the Piki-Rijura to be delivered to the black market near Port Boulder. The arrangement was to keep in alive, but with a few convincing 'words' he was able to still get the reward for selling the parts of the fish. Sovereign was no fool, and knew it would be used for strange experiments in the near future, and if that was the case, it just meant more missions and money for him.
