[attr="class","kbody"] [attr="class","kicon"] [attr="class","ktitle"]Storm Sheltered [attr="class","kcontent"]Crash. Light pierced the sky. Boom. The earth erupted. Winds like terrible beasts ravage the surrounding trees. Rain falls with such ferocity that it leaves welts on any exposed flesh. Those that found themselves in this deplorable whether were unfortunates forced to seek any shelter available. This was not a matter of getting out of some rain. It was imperative to get out of the growing storm. Haruhi had been on her way to her next mission when she found herself in this detestable weather. What had seemed like peaceful weather suddenly became dark and gloomy. When that happened she was not thinking straight. Anyone in their right mind would have taken a glance at the creeping darkness and stepped away. Returned to the peaceful sunny day that was offered to them and postponed arriving at the mission on time. It was not concern for the mission that drove Haruhi forward. It was not a desire to be there on time or to get the job done. Missions were not mandatory for her day to day life. But when she realized that the world around her was getting darker something clicked in the young ninja’s head. Obviously a storm was on the way, but ‘storm’ to Haruhi was different from most. To her it was not the rain or the wind. Even the darkness failed to coerce her the way she was now. No, it was thoughts of bright flashes and loud crashes that ushered her forward. She knew what was coming and she dashed through thinking she could avoid it if she were quick enough. If she was fast enough she could avoid the approaching lightning storm. That was her motivation. Then the first lightning bolt struck. Though it was miles from where she had been standing, the flash was enough to make her go doe-eyed. Her whole body came to a halt and she almost forgot where she was and what she had been doing. Collecting herself, she tried to move again. There was another crash. She halted. Her heart was racing, and she was forced to grip hard at her chest. Before she could step again it happened. The flash of light. Without intending to she let out the loudest of cries as a clear liquid started at the edges of her eyes. It was when the rain started down on her that she realized that she was not quick enough. It was too late to run. She was in the storm and she was terrified. Screaming ”No, no, no, no..” As loud as her frightened lungs would let her she dashed through the unrelenting storm as fast as she could. Haruhi would not remember approaching that home. She could not think of what it looked like or where it had come from. As she was running she noticed a safe place. Without questioning its origins she dashed inside and slammed the door shut. Then, succumbing to her fear she crumbled into a ball not far from the entrance. She clutched herself tight and awaited the end of the storm. Little did she know that she had wandered into a home that she should not have. Notes: Haruhi suffers from astraphobia (the fear of lightning/thunder). On her way to a mission she notices an incoming storm. Driven by her own anxieties she rushes to cross the distance to her next destination not realizing she was only bringing herself further into the storm. Unable to think straight she wanders into the first building she sees. I will let whoever joins the thread decide what the building looks like. Despite what she herself wanted, Natalie did have some of the instincts of a healer. Why? She couldn’t tell. Before starting to use her magic, she’d never had any desire to help others. Even today, it was not really a desire, but more the seeking of opportunities. That was as far as her conscious self was concerned. Yet, there were these brief moments, when she heard someone cry in pain or fear, that her mind just snapped in that direction. In truth, she could not explain that with greed. That only came afterwards, when she was taking a closer look to try and find out whether helping would prove lucrative. But that first impulse truly was an impulse, involuntary, sudden and unpredictable. She’d tried to get rid of it, but to no avail.
That was why it was in action once more today. Walking in the same area, she too had considered finding shelter when she heard someone calling out in distress. Blinking, she quickly turned her head in said direction and saw a young woman sprinting right into a nearby building. It struck her as odd, actually. Winds were getting not just intense but also loud. That girl also seemed too far away to hear, especially this clearly. Yet, the duress in which the oddly clothed woman was seemed obvious still. Why she didn’t come towards Nat and instead sought shelter, the latter wouldn’t know. But this felt too odd to ignore. Interest piqued, the young healer would best the storm a bit more and close in on the house.
Said house didn’t look like anything special. Neither dangerous nor inviting, all she could call it was ordinary. Still, the storm was getting worse, so she hurried that way anyway. If nothing else, concern for the girl would make for a good enough reason to go in there as well. Before doing that, however, the healer in the yellow raincoat would listen on the door, hearing….absolutely nothing. That was odd as well. Usually, there was always something to hear in a house with life in it. Here was nothing, though. It was not only odd, of course, but it also meant that doing this was pointless. If she wanted to investigate, she had to take a look inside.
Cautiously, she opened the rain-coated door and spied inside. Why not? It was not locked, after all, so if nothing else, the people of this place had no one else to blame. Said people were not in sight, however. Instead, she would swiftly be able to make out the cowering girl next to a wall. Clearly shaken, this person was in outright distress. That prompted her to rush in as well, allowing the door to fall into lock behind her. Natalie would slow down as she got closer though, in order to be a bit more soothing, gentle, calming. “Hey, you. Are you okay?” It was a dumb question, of course. Yet, it was also the positive way to get another to explain her current state of being.

[attr="class","kbody"] [attr="class","kicon"] [attr="class","ktitle"]Storm Sheltered [attr="class","kcontent"]With each crash of lightning, the ball that was Ruhi clutched itself harder. She grabbed herself tighter and tighter as if eventually she would pop out of existence and away from the incoming storm. Reality was cruel, and that never came to pass. What did happen was the storm continued and her heart continued under the unbridled force of her own anxieties. It was the best example of an unexplained fear. Ruhi, during her work, had faced off against many sorts of mages and magics. Fire, ice, water, metal, these were all elements that she tackled each day and have never elicited such a response from her. During these dangerous jobs her life was put on the line in more ways than a storm could ever offer. The irrationality of her response was not lost on her, and yet she could not carry herself. She could not pick herself up from the floor. All she could do in wait and cry until the storm met its end. There would be another out though. A way for her to rid the storm and anxiety from her mind. Could she find something to distract her long enough, she would be able to become ignorant of the surrounding weather and continue on, hopefully until the storm had shifted. This opportunity would find itself in the form of a stranger concerned for her well-being. Stuck within her bout of anxiety, Haruhi had not noticed another person nearby. Not when she was dashing in the direction of her next mission and not after she had chosen to escape into the foreign building. But she was not so far gone that she could not hear that person enter the building and then approach. She was not so distraught that she would ignore the woman’s question. At that time there would be a lull in the storm. It was a period without any flashes. There would be no hints of rumbling. It was enough for Haruhi to stop bracing herself and look up at the unexpected face. Her lungs were heaving. Though the question remained on her mind, she could not speak as her chest tried to replace the air that was quickly escaping her. But eventually she would speak and say, ”Y-yeah.. I.. I’m fin.. Eeeh!” The sky flashed again, and tore through the earth. It was so loud, so destructive, that, for Haruhi, it felt as if the lightning struck just several feet away. In that moment her arms latched on her legs and pulled them inwards once more. Yeah. Fine. Definitely. Natalie rolled her eyes at that notion. Just like a pig marinating on a fireplace would probably be lying when it said it was fine, so was this woman. Just the way she jumped from a nearby lightning strike was enough to prove that. It was not very close, either. Fortunately, this was probably just something psychometric or so, not an actual ailment that could or should be treated. Well, maybe she could have done something in the former case, but since it was something she couldn’t much help with, she also had no obligation to do so. “Suuure,” she replied, looking about. This place seemed livable, yet no one had come to greet or shoo them away yet. That was odd. They probably would have to either lie low or investigate. Or they could just leave, probably. Yet, it was less stormy in here, so she would have preferred to stay for just a little longer.
Then again, to justify that, she might have to do something here. Nat sighed, deeply, before thinking about a prudent course of action. Magic was kind of pointless in this regard. Technically, she could just cause that girl pain to snap her out of it, but that kind of ‘distraction’ probably wouldn’t work. Well, in that case, only the mundane means remained, didn’t they? Deciding, on a whim, to take matters into her own hands, Natalie squatted down in front of the other, who was trying to somehow disappear into herself. Then, she would reach out, attempting to embrace the sitting girl gently as well as she could. Maybe a soothing presence alone would be sufficient in resolving this issue? Nat didn’t know. But that was usually helpful in one way or another. “Shhhh…you are safe in here,” she lied. Well, she did think that they were safe here. But she had no real way to prove that at all.

The pressure on Ruhi’s eyelids was enough to make diamonds from coal. The atoms of her flesh quivered as she attempted to squeeze herself tighter and tighter without any give. It was discomforting and painful, but any attempt of a sane response became impossible with each passing bolt. That is until something grabbed her.
To say it was the embrace that saved her from that unruly mindset would have been incorrect. Rather, the anxiety that the lightning struck into her was quickly negated by another fear. In her right mind Haruhi was quick. She could recognize a strange sensation when she felt it. And to feel something warm begin to enclose her she already could tell she was being touched by something. Not an object, but a person or animal. And which of those two did she find more unbearing? The one that she looked up to find.
The moment that Haruhi locked eyes with the foreign woman her irrational attempts to form into a ball were replaced with the relentless belief that she had to back away. It did not matter who they were or what they were doing. Equal to her fear of lightning was her fear of people, and this drove her away from the woman and towards a set of stairs several feet away. Her arms would retract and she would sort of meld with the steps of the stairs as if trying to hide her presence from the woman. Needless to say her attempts were hopeless.
”Who… Who are you? Wait. Is this your house. I need to get out.. Eeh!” She cried again right as she was attempting to get up from the stairs. Her plan was to run out of the house, but before she could the lightning flashed again forcing her to jump a foot into the air before landing back at the foot of the stairs.
”I’ll leave when the lightning does!” She yelled from within her repositioned balled up form. While she still seemed frightened, it does look like she has recovered a bit. Rather than crying in a panicked daze, she now watches Natalie with a look resembling a frightened kitten.
