"Understood, let's head there then."
Without further ado, Kasumi had begun to make her way in the direction of said cave. For the most part she kept her eyes peeled against possible threat from within the forest but so far there were not even a single animal that greeted them. She supposed with the heavy downpour, most animals would take shelter somewhere dry so as to preserve their body temperature. The whole trip was spent in silent unless Natalie decided to engage her in conversation in which case she would answer any questions that she may be posed with.
It didn't take too long for them to spot the cave in question, one which Kasumi would immediately point towards if Natalie had not spotted it first. As time was of haste, she would beckon them to hurry but slowed down upon seeing footprints at the entrance of the cave. While normally the rainwater would have washed away most of them, the entrance of the cave provide against the rainwater hence why they were able to spot them in first place. There were at least two fresh tracks spotted in front of the cave. One of them resembles the shape of a boot while the other is a barefoot track of creatures that did not match the profile of any wild animals she expected to prowl around the area. There was a slight pause before she turned towards Natalie.
"...Hobgoblin. There's a hobgoblin inside this cave, probably a migrant."

Likewise, Natalie would remain silent. Travels between cities were for chatting and other means to stave off boredom. While this area was supposed to be secure, it was still better to be both quiet and alert. There could be something wrong that had caused this issue to begin with. Just because they did not run into anything along the way did not make this less true. Nevertheless, Nat was relieved that they did not have a fight here. The muddy ground was not great for combat, much too slippery in parts and filled with roots and the like. The first time they found something suspicious occurred near the cave itself. That was a but more favourable. It had worse implications, however, as her partner deduced the most likely culprit.
Nat had not heard of hobgoblins yet. But the name did not inspire confidence in the fate of their target of rescue. “Hmm….I don’t know much about them. Sounds bad, though. Do you know any specifics about these things? I am not so sure if that is a good sign for the guy we are looking for,” she replied. Admittedly, that offered little of substance or help in the current situation. But she did not have much to contribute, really. Aside from asking questions, that was. “Do you think it might have attacked him? That would explain why he has not returned on his own, but could also mean that he might no longer be alive.” Was it odd that her thoughts so quickly moved towards dark places? It probably wasn’t good, but she did prefer to be wrong about things being worse than about things being well, if nothing else.

"Think of them as a minor demon. They may do nasty things to you if you are not careful."
Even as she spoke, Kasumi took a moment to study the footprints once more. That there was only one belonging to the hobgoblin gave them something to hope for. Any more and their job would have switched immediately to deceased identification. While some client would be understanding enough to give compensation for their effort, normally it would mean their mission is a complete failure. Which was of course something she rather avoided at all cost.
"Perhaps not. Our target is a hunter."
Just then, they would hear a cry for help from within the cave. It prompted the purplette to spring immediately into action as she closed the umbrella and darted inside. She had hoped that the cry would urge Natalie to follow closely as well, though she kept her pace at a rate which Natalie should be able to follow still. Only when she stumbled upon the owner of said tracks that she stopped in her track. In front of her stood a green rough-skinned broad shouldered humanoid the size of man, dressed in only loincloth. It held a rusty sword in it's hand, the tip of which was bleeding slightly. A couple of arrow shafts could be seen sticking out of it's body and it seem to be grimacing slightly from the pain.
Meanwhile, the hunter they meant to rescue laid on the ground not too far from where the hobgoblin was. Blood had began to spilled from laceration wound across the chest. On the floor not too far from the hunter was a bow which looked as if it had been snapped into two. Immediately Kasumi take her combat stance as she make a beckoning motion to the hobgoblin. Assuming that the healer had been following closely from behind, she gave her a slight nod.
"I got this. Take care of the hunter Natalie."
With that Kasumi would attempt to lure the hobgoblin away from the duo so as not to let them get caught in their battle. There was nothing the purplette could do about the injury the hunter was afflicted with, so she just needed to distract the creature enough to let Natalie do her job.

A hunter. Now that wasn’t good. To Natalie, that immediately translated to this being a predator to be wary of. She gripped her staff tightly, would soon enough hear the noises as well. Alert and apprehensive, she rushed there following her partner closely. Given how she’d been carried down earlier, it was clear that the other was not going at full speed. The healer knew better than to waste time feeling bad about slowing them down, and instead focused on keeping up as well as she could.
Soon after, they arrived. She likewise stole a look at the scene unfolding and, though less experience, quickly gathered what was going on there. The other swiftly formulated a plan, prompting her to nod. It was easy enough. Kasumi swiftly took to provoking the enemy in an effort to garner its attention. Her earlier explanations had made it sound as if that thing had limited intelligence. The barbaric attire supported that as well. This meant that it probably did not understand the plan that was so openly shared, meaning there would be an opening soon.
The issue with caves was that they usually only had one entrance, after all. That thing was already inside, standing between them and the hunter. While it would probably be possible to dash past it, Nat didn’t think Kas would risk that. Instead, she pressed herself against the cave’s mouth on the outside, trying to be as small as possible to not appear in the thing’s peripheral vision. Also a bit dangerous, but it seemed the better option for now. The assassin would probably pick up on that quickly. Nat decided not to reply verbally to not give away that there were two of them. Instead, she hoped that Kas would draw the Hobgoblin out of the cave towards the other side, allowing her to sneak in past it and make haste towards the hunter. Then, she could take care of him properly.
That would be exactly what she would do, once the foe had left. Trusting her partner to know what she was doing, Nat would dive in as soon as she deemed it safe, put one hand on the guy’s mouth and the other on his wound. One, to heal him. One, to keep him from screaming in pain.

Lost & Found [Closed, Mission]

The Hobgoblin stood a few feet in front of her. In it's hand, it was carrying a rusty shortsword which was trickling with blood. Glaring at the assassin that stood before her, it let out a guttural. Did it understand her words? She had never tried to speak with one before and this particular creature wasn't exactly in diplomatic mood either. It was injured, it was hungry and most of all it was angry. Letting out a howl of anger upon provocation, it would charged straight towards Kasumi.
A flash of steel followed meant to decapitate the purplette in one swing. But the rusty blade failed to meet it's mark, shaving only her afterimage. The Assassin immediately pivot around the hobgoblin while gripping the hobgoblin's sword hand to use the momentum of the creature's swing against it and swiftly switched their position around and giving Natalie the opening she needed to slip past. Once she had confirmed the healer was behind her with the hunter, she would let out a sharp kiai before opening up on a combination of strikes and kicks to drive it away from them.
The hunter watched them with wide eyed, as he could not believe his luck that someone heard his cry for help. He was about to express his feeling of gratitude when Natalie covered his mouth as she began healing his wounds. Without medicine to dull his pain, he screamed through her palm as he endured the healing process by the girl. By the time it was over the hunter had fallen unconscious from the shock of the pain. Though he was rendered unconscious he would still live from the experience, his wounds having properly closed and healed under Natalie's care.
A metallic clang struck against the wall of the cave and soon a blade filled with blood emerged. But instead of the hobgoblin, the hand that held the handle of the shortsword belongs to the Assassin. It did not look like she was doing intentionally however, giving their surrounding a once over before she knelt down towards the unconscious hunter. His face and attire certainly matched the description given by the villager. And though she was lacking in medical art, she could see that the hunter was breathing still and felt that was enough for her.
"Well done Natalie. Once you felt he is save to move, let me know so I can carry him out of here."she stated, her gaze migrating towards the mouth of the cave. It was still pouring outside though to a much lesser extent than when they had come in first.
"Though if you wish to wait for the rain to stop first, I would not be opposed either."

As a healer, trust was one of the most precious commodities that Natalie could deal with. Other members of her ‘parties’, sometimes just a single person, trusted her to keep them safe, to not desert them in their hour of need. By the same token, she had to trust them for their protection. That was of importance in situations like this one. The healer was fairly occupied by keeping the hunter pacified and healing him before he could expire. In that situation, she was incredibly easy prey for any foe seeking to do her harm. If that hobgoblin had won or even just been disengaged, she’d been done for.
Therefore, going in here quickly like this, instead of just waiting outside until the threat was taken care of, that said a lot about their current dynamic. It might have been a bit unwarranted, given that she still barely knew the woman. Yet they had spent enough time together, including the climb downwards, that she felt like it would work out. Fortunately, it did. Trust only carried so far, after all. The girl with the purple hair could have believed in herself completely, yet still failed. That had not come to pass. The sword that appeared belonged to Natalie’s partner, letting her sigh softly in relief, as she gave the other a quick glance-over.
“Were you injured in the fight?” Naturally, that was the first question asked. It was her job. Having done what she could for the one they had come to save, she could offer some mana to her partner as well. Though the latter was still quite focused on the task at hand. “Traditional wisdom would be to at least wait until he is conscious again, to find out if there are any issues remaining that might not have been visible immediately. I’m fairly confident that he would survive a quicker evacuation, though. What do you think? We would have to keep him from the rain and cold if possible, but could there be more of those things out there?”

A fleck of surprise can be seen in her eyes though Kasumi shook her head in response. She didn't expect such question from her partner but that was mostly due to her experience she worked with in the past. As long as she didn't get in the way of their job, they couldn't care less. Having someone who actually bothered to check for her condition was refreshing for once.
"Slight bruises but it shall not impede me."
The girl would put the bloodied shortsword on the ground next to her. Old and rusty, it didn't look like the kind of equipment a hunter would carry especially since she noticed he was carrying a skinning knife. The hobgoblin was carrying it in it's hand, presumably something it had fetched somewhere. The only thing she could see other than the hunter and the healer were the bones of small animals, which laid at the end of the cave.
"That hobgoblin was a migrant. It means that it was an outcast exiled by it's own group. I highly doubted there were more out there,at least not in this weather."
Natalie raised an important point however. It would be better to wait for the rain to die out and the hunter to regain consciousness. At the same time, she was not really eager to dive back into the cold natural shower outside the cave. She would take out a pocket watch to check the time before turning to her.
"Let us wait for 15 more minutes or so then. If the rain still haven't died out by then, we should probably move."

Heh. She had caught the unflappable assassin off guard, hadn’t she? Nat could tell from the brief surprise following her question what kind of effect it had had. Naturally, it went verbally unacknowledged. But Natalie had been through similar instances before. She could tell. Or she at least believed she could. Which was pretty much just as important, as far as she was concerned. After all, that was all that would matter in the end, given that they were unlikely to meet in the future. They were not guild mates, after all. That did tend to make regular meetings pretty hard these days, all things considered.
“I guess it is better to have that heal naturally, then. As you can see with this man, my brand of healing is…and acquired taste, so to speak.” Natalie chuckled at that. But it was still true nonetheless. Most people did not enjoy her healing, so she tended to minimize the usage of it. The hunter had passed out from the pain, after all. Best if she didn’t have to carry two people back up there. Not when the other was much better at carrying people to begin with.
Instead, she dusted herself up briefly, while standing upright again. The rain did not look like it would actually let up anytime soon, but fifteen minutes were truly inconsequential to begin with. “It did not look like it made a proper home for many of its kind, yes. The people of the town will want to know about it, I think. According to the village chief, they did not have any monsters coming into the Vale for years, maybe decades. But maybe this heavy rain season has changed things.” She fell silent, briefly, pondering if these things might be connected more than they at first appeared.

"Perhaps you should consider getting painkillers to help supplement your magic."
Kasumi nodded knowingly upon hearing her comment about acquired taste. The hunter was not in a really dire state earlier but now he was completely out like light. Having worked closely with a resident medical mage before, it wasn't hard for her to put two on two together. Soon the time was up and the assassin still show no sign of stopping. Though she hated walking through the rain, she will herself to get up before lifting the hunter onto her back.
"That may be the case, yes. Can you hold the umbrella for us Nat? I rather not let out victim get afflicted with hypothermia."
Considering her partner wears a raincoat, she would be more protected against the relentless rain. Not to mention, she was the physically stronger of the pair thus making the division of task much easier between them. With their victim rescued safely, it was just a matter of leading them both back to the village. As the village chief said, the valley itself is mostly safe for the most part. The existence of the hobgoblin was just a minor coincidence.
