A single kitten was born unlike the others; yet, this kitten looked just as the others did, albeit a ticking time bomb of fey ferocity. It was inevitably plucked from its family and taken in as a pet to a particular and insignificant family. It was one touched by tragedy much like many others. The parents of an average boy fell ill, fated to be whisked away by the cold clutches of death. A flux of poor circumstance and insurmountable independence resulted in his upbringing falling within his own hands. However, the family's pet was still with him; the cat. It served as justification to commune and every night before bed, he found himself reading "bed-time stories" to his cat just as his parents had seemingly so long ago.
[break][break]
Unbeknownst to his young owner initially, his feline friend began to change after the passing of the feline’s thirteenth birthday. A mythological creature – enemy to humanity; a bakeneko. An increased intellect and self-awareness was his very first change. Unsurprisingly and ironically, the animal took upon itself a confusion like none other it experienced before. The resulting change in his pet's behavior evoked feelings of concern, but as one struggling through his education, worry for long he could not. The boy was often found stagnating in solitariness over textbooks and the like.
[break][break]
Old, yet kept books of the boy's early schooling years eventually attracted his pet's attention. Out of sight, the cat found itself with a steadily-growing ability to comprehend what was written and the capability only grew as he received more bed-time readings. His owner was slightly moved by the drastically increased interest his cat had in his readings and even the book itself. A true and unbreakable bond was certainly forming; but the cat was beginning to worry what his owner would think of him. After all, he was growing.
[break][break]
The range of motion his appendages could move only grew in a manner that could not be described as 'cat-like.' His vision sharpened. He was gaining an incredible amount of dexterity in is progressively-more-hand-like paws and he could easily walk upright. When he saw his owner collapsed over his desk sleeping from a night of attempting to finish his work, the cat was able to hold a pencil and even write with it; but that wasn't all. His owner woke to find the work mysteriously finished. A homework-doing cat. What could be better than that? And it was apparent he was the one doing it, which while it was unbelievable, something was clearly going on. After all, his cat must have been three times the size it once was. Just as the boy was approaching adulthood and finishing up his studies, he unfortunately fell ill. He would inevitably pass in the same manner his parents did, leaving his pet to mourn alone.
[break][break]
This creature never went feral. Perhaps it was the loving relationship between his owner and himself – but unlike the mythological creatures currently storming Earthland, he had an intact persona. Amidst his days of mourning, a seemingly eternal slump where drive in general left him, a crow appeared. It offered congratulations through speech both loud and bird-like. It had much to say and ignored his deadened disposition. It imparted knowledge onto him such as his forced belonging to Mythos as of now; a group of mythological creatures who retained their sense of self. Bestowed a messenger, the messenger delivers instructions on where to go, the majority of their orders being relevant to felling dangerous creatures. Their sheer annoyance, the bakeneko stepped out of his melancholic stupor and accepted as long as the bird ceased from endlessly squawking.
[break][break]
However, what really opened him up to the idea of the whole ordeal was when he was imparted this portion of information; it's believed his family fell victim to a biological attack launched by a mythological creature ages ago and, of course, his monster-cat physiology does not succumb easily to such things.
