Diamonds in the Muck [Mission, Closed]

MISSION NAME: Diamonds in the Muck CLIENT: Das Minne CHARACTERS: Lisabeth Godfrey + Genessa MISSION BRIEFING: Evening traveler. I am the famed archaeologist and geologist, Das Minne. I believe it my role in this world to uncover what treasures there are. In the fields. In the ruins. And today, in the swamps. I seek these treasures to put them on display for children, future historians and future Das Minners. Lately I've been having my eyes on this one place. An abandoned mine in the Siltstone Wetlands. Once the home of nasty bandits, it is sure to yield some of their findings. That is, if we could get by the numerous traps they laid. Could you do me a favor and disable some of them traps. Bring something back to prove that you have done it. [attr="class","kbody"] [attr="class","kicon"] [attr="class","ktitle"]Diamonds in the Muck [attr="class","kcontent"]It is a miserable sight. No, not the trees that have been steeped in feet of thick, muddy water. And not that same muddy water that seems to stretch for as far as the eyes can see. Not the way that it seems difficult to step anywhere and know just how deep the water was, or if that step would be a drop into some dark and murky water. And certainly it was not the thick clouds of flies, gnats and mosquitos that made it terrible.
What made the Siltstone Wetlands horrible was the combination of above. With each of those details being bad on its own, the combination of all those little details paint an adventure so horrendous that it would scar or traumatize even the most seasoned of travelers. The horridness of this place did not escape one Liz Godfrey.
The young woman’s venture into the wetlands had not just started. It began hours ago. The seasoned traveler and confident treasure hunter had dived into the region certain that it would not be difficult. She wore long, and thick leather boots to combat the mud and water. Adorning her torso was a thick green parka that covered well passed her hands, and provided a hood to keep insects free from her hair. She wore thicker than usual tights and cargo shorts that stretched down to her knees. To finish off the protective wardrobe she had what resembled a medical breathing mask and goggles to protect her face.
What Liz thought to be enough to combat the elements was far from adequate. It did not take more than a few minutes before she had stepped in a pool of mud deeper than she expected. Her legs were submerged and her boots filled with the rancid sludge.
As she tried to free herself her hands were freed from her sleeves. It was an opportunity for the bugs to strike. They bit and chewed at her relentlessly before she managed to return her arms to the safty of her sleeves. At the same time her tights were covered in muck; the pockets of her shorts were filled with mud.
She continued though. Through the marshes. Through the bushes. Through the branches. Along the way, the flora cut away at her wardrobe. Those branches pulled at her sleeves and parka. They grabbed her hood and forced her to fight for its return. Along the way her mask was knocked into some water, and she gave up on the goggles that constantly fogged in the humid region.
By the time that Liz arrived at the entrance of the old mine, she was already beaten. Her hair packed with mud and sweat. Her face and arms were covered in welts, the result of her constant attackers. Her feet had become prunes and without a place to change there was no sign of that feeling going away. By the time she had arrived at the old mine, she was done.
”N-never.. Never again. This. This.. This will be the last time.” Her lungs heaved with each word. Exhausted as she was, just speaking these brief lines was too much for her. Tired as she was, and not seeing anyone else at the cave, she stepped forward and towards the mouth of the mine. There she found herself falling to the stone floor and pushing her legs out ahead of her so that they were parallel with the ground.
Then, not talking to anyone in particular, she said, ”Time for a break. A long.. Break.”

In front of the entrance of the mine, a lone slayer stood by while taking a long draw of her cigarette. She was supposed to be expecting someone to accompany her, a Godfrey though not her usual partner. Apparently they would be checking out some ruins together for treasure of a sort. Not quite her typical mission but she couldn't afford to be picky when it comes to renovating her guild hall.
So when she saw the poor sight of the poor lass who looked as if something the cat dragged in, her heart immediately goes out for her. Afterall she was in the exact same state the girl was in just about an hour or so ago, though she had changed out of her casual clothes into a t-shirt and cargo pants. Heading on over towards her side, Audrey would crouch by her side so as to loom over her view before passing a reserve water canteen she had packed for the trip.
"Well met. Supposed ya be my partner for today hm?"she asked with a wolfish grin. Her eyes would look scrutinize her partner form closely as she try to determine what kind of mage she was. From her clothes she didn't look the athletic type but she was experienced enough to not let that fool her. She would then offer her hand towards her in a friendly handshake.
"Audrey Iron. At your service sheila."

[attr="class","kbody"] [attr="class","kicon"] [attr="class","ktitle"]Diamonds in the Muck [attr="class","kcontent"]Liz heaved another breath. Took in the largest gulp of air that she could muster and held onto it as if it were her last breath. Try as she might she could not get her breathing under control. Though she traveled frequently, the amount of stress and duress she suffered here was beyond anything that she had experienced before. She wanted to throw in the towel , to give up, and she almost had if not for her stubborn personality. Moments after she arrived near the entrance of the cave her eyes suffered the sounds of a foreign voice. It latched at her skull and forced it to the side bringing her eyes to focus on the stranger that she only now realized was present. It was then that the words that were spoken registered in her mind and she had to quickly bite her tongue. There was something in her head. When she heard the question about whether she was the partner that something almost had her telling them that they were mistaken. That she was just here for a jog and then she would be on her way, never to return here again. And yet she knew that she had come here already. She was here. How could she back out now when she was already at the entrance. But even more, this was a job. It was a chance. It was an opportunity to locate some rare and valuable treasures. Understanding this, she did shake her head a bit to the woman, but then she would tell them, ”Right. I’m the partner. Huh.. Oh.”Liz saw something enter her field of view. Not expecting the person to suddenly move, it took her a second to realize that they were offering their hand. When she had noticed she shook her head once more, mostly disappointed in the way she was acting. Then, without further delay, she brought her hand to meet with the woman that soon introduced herself as Audrey. ”Liz. Just call me Liz. I just.. Need.. A moment to breathe.” She clutched at her chest as she said this, still fighting for air. But this would not take long. Within seconds her breathing was stabilizing and she was able to steady herself. ”So that’s the cave then. Know anything about it? I have a lantern somewhere in my bag, but I didn’t really get much information about this place.” She looked around as she spoke, and continued browsing the area when she was done. Whether or not the other woman contributed anything she would soon point out, ”You’d think there’d be mine carts or some lying about. Not even a rail. Was this really a mine?” Notes: Audrey Iron[attr="class","kinfo"] Words: 450 [attr="class","kpage"]1 [newclass=.kbody]background-color:#fff;width:300px;margin:auto;padding:5px;border:#ddd 1px solid;box-shadow:#565656 1px 1px 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.kicon img]margin:5px;border-radius:50%;overflow:hidden;border:0;[/newclass][newclass=.kicon]width:110px;margin:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.kcontent]font-family:tahoma;font-size:10px;color:#868686;padding:15px;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;[/newclass][newclass=.klink]width:300px;text-align:right;[/newclass][newclass=.ktitle]color:#bc486b;font-weight:bold;font-family:georgia;text-align:center;font-size:24px;border-bottom:#bc486b 1px solid;letter-spacing:-2px;width:250px;margin:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.kinfo]padding:5px;color:white;font-family:tahoma;background-color:#bc486b;font-size:10px;[/newclass][newclass=.kpage]display:inline-block;width:200px;color:white;text-align:right;[/newclass]

"Nice to meet'cha Liz. And take all the time ya need, ain't rushing anywhere just yet."
The wolfish grin didn't leave her face as she continued to study her partner. With the poor state she's in, it's best to let her calm down and compose herself. The water canteen she brought earlier from her bagpack was offered to the girl and should Lizzy chose to take a look inside she would notice it was filled to the brim.
"Here. Feel free to have some, get yourself hydrated."
Whether or not Liz chose to take her offer, she would direct her attention to the mine in question. A thoughtful look passed over her face. The girl was quite right in that the mine in question doesn't look like a proper one she had seen thus far. Audrey did a little scouting of the place before Lisabeth got there herself but not too deeply as she was worried she may missed her partner's arrival. If she wanted this mission to be a success, she needed to share all the necessary information with her partner.
"Not a proper one sheila. See, this place used to be the hideout of bloodthirsty bandits. They rob all sort of cool shit and brought them here because they knew it's hard to track them down. Ya already experienced how hard it was just to get here. Takes one with steel resolve."
With that Audrey would take out a bag of steel balls from her pocket, pouring the content onto her hand and began munching on them like they're peanuts. Her gaze maintained on the building as she take a more relaxed seating position next to her.
"I checked the entrance earlier. No sign of bandits and even if they were around, they must be pretty ancient. Place rigged to hell though. I got blasted with 500 steel balls just trying to get further from the entrance."she finished nonchalantly, as if walking into a claymore mine was just an everyday occurrence for her. Part of her shirt got holes in them courtesy of said steel ball but for the most part she was uninjured.

Diamonds in the Muck [Mission, Closed]

[attr="class","kbody"] [attr="class","kicon"] [attr="class","ktitle"]Diamonds in the Muck [attr="class","kcontent"]It was obvious Liz did not want to take the water. Regardless who this person was, she was sure they could use the water as much as she could. It was difficult to be thoughtful though. The elements had been grinding at her resolve. The heat was draining her normal character. Irritated by the bugs and sweat that covered her she opted to accept the offer without any argument. She grabbed the water and several glugs later had it back in its owner’s hands. ”Thank you.” Were the words she chose to show her appreciation. Then, without a pause, she took in a deep breath. Careful to not carry any of the nearby insects in her lungs, she attempted to draw in as much as she could. Then with her lungs filled to the brim she exhaled a ferocious bellow. Her attention returned just in time to hear Audrey say “not a proper one sheila”. The last was a word that she had never heard before. But she shook her head at it and continued to listen to what was said. Maybe there would be context in there, or maybe this “sheila” was just a figure of speech. Liz stuck with brief movements of her head to show that she was listening. Then there was something else to catch her attention. ’Did she just..?’ She asked herself as she watched the woman bite at what was clearly an metallic ball. This was not as easy to ignore. Not so easy to just bob her head up and down as she listened. Seeing this she found herself marveling the woman with large eyes debating whether to ask what she was doing. Instead she continued to listen. About the bandits. She listened about the traps. She listened about the steel balls. That last part brought a look to Liz’s face that seemed to say ‘that explains where those came from’ but did not mask her remaining confusion over Audrey eating what she now knew was steel. ”We just take it slow then, right? Traps aren’t really a concern to me. Once I work my magic we should be able to find them.”Finally showing a bit of energy, she held a hand on her hip as the other began poking at the air in front of her. At first strange hand motions, it would soon be evident that there was a holographic screen floating front of her. As she scrolled through it and pressed buttons it would begin to display information about what was in front of her. At first that meant the steel balls in Audrey’s hands. With the screen pointed at them, Liz could see that they were in fact made of steel. It was a fact that brought a look on her face that said ‘she was right.’ Then she brought the screen to analyze the path to the mine. ”I can get information on just about anything I point this screen at. Though if there’s a fight, know that I’m not going to be helping much. My attack power is practically zero.” Notes: Audrey Iron[attr="class","kinfo"] Words: 514 [attr="class","kpage"]3 [newclass=.kbody]background-color:#fff;width:300px;margin:auto;padding:5px;border:#ddd 1px solid;box-shadow:#565656 1px 1px 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.kicon img]margin:5px;border-radius:50%;overflow:hidden;border:0;[/newclass][newclass=.kicon]width:110px;margin:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.kcontent]font-family:tahoma;font-size:10px;color:#868686;padding:15px;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;[/newclass][newclass=.klink]width:300px;text-align:right;[/newclass][newclass=.ktitle]color:#bc486b;font-weight:bold;font-family:georgia;text-align:center;font-size:24px;border-bottom:#bc486b 1px solid;letter-spacing:-2px;width:250px;margin:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.kinfo]padding:5px;color:white;font-family:tahoma;background-color:#bc486b;font-size:10px;[/newclass][newclass=.kpage]display:inline-block;width:200px;color:white;text-align:right;[/newclass]

Audrey nodded in response as she acknowledged the girl's gratitude. Admittedly she was a little worried that Lisabeth would deny her offer, some mage are just too damn prideful for their own good. The reaction Audrey observed from the girl upon munching the steel ball cause her lips to curl into a smirk. Almost everyone she met had the same reaction and if they don't, it's usually a dead giveaway that they're a slayer like her if not directly associated with one.
Curiosity emerged upon her face when Lisabeth dismiss concern about traps within the area. She seems to have absolute confidence in her magic sensors for whatever trap they may encounter. Her eyebrow quirked slightly upon noticing the girl making strange hand gestures onto the air in front of her. A flicker of surprise followed as lightshows appear in front of her eyes, it was definitely not the kind of magic that she had ever seen before. Audrey would reach out to said holographic screen and attempt to touch it if permitted to see if her finger had any reaction to it.
"Now ain't that a nice trick. And sure, ya can leave any combat related matter to me sheila. I'm built more robust than a brickhouse, so if anything nasty pop up just stay close and you'll be fine. My magic is defensive, so ya can just treat me as a shield."
With that Audrey began to pick herself up from the floor and stretched herself. One can only wonder just how long it would take to explore the dungeon ahead of them. She would walk towards the knapsack from which she had grabbed her stuff earlier before she returned to Lisabeth's side.
"Welp, that treasure ain't gonna find itself. I'm ready to move out whenever you feel you are ready Sheila."

[attr="class","kbody"] [attr="class","kicon"] [attr="class","ktitle"]Diamonds in the Muck [attr="class","kcontent"] ”Good.” Liz replied while gazing the other woman up and down. She was gauging them, seeing if there was anything to back up what she was told. It was not that she absolutely doubted what she was being told. Rather, this might have been a hit on her own character, if anything. As confident as Lisabeth sounded in her ability to detect traps, she knew that there might and would be some that escaped her magic. In her head, if Audrey was just as honest as she was, then her promises to defend her had want for something more concrete. She was not going to give up right away though. After combating the elements just to be here, Liz was going to see the mission through. If things did not work out, they could just run for it. It would not be the first time she had to do that, and she was certain it would not be the last. ”Let’s go then. Just keep it at a.. modest pace.” If there was any question as to what she met it would be answered by the way she then looked down at her screen. The screen might have been magic, but it did take time to process. If they started dashing into and through the cave it would not have time to detect anything. There was also the matter of the torch. Once her screen was set up properly, Liz reached into her pouch to grab a thick length of wood and a small canister of oil. One flick of a match latter and they had a bright blaze ready to light up anything in front of them. ”Want this?” If Audrey accepted her offer, Liz would hand the torch to her. This would allow her to have two hands on her screen. It would also allow her to retrieve her dagger if it became necessary. Otherwise she would have one hand on the screen and another on the torch. Regardless which of them had the torch, Liz would allow herself to fall behind a little. She could be next to Audrey or behind her, but she was not going to allow herself to appear in front. Like she had said, she was going to be the shield, and a shield was not helping Liz if she was standing in front of it. ”The entrance and the first ten or so feet should be safe.” Notes: Audrey Iron[attr="class","kinfo"] Words: 405 [attr="class","kpage"]4 [newclass=.kbody]background-color:#fff;width:300px;margin:auto;padding:5px;border:#ddd 1px solid;box-shadow:#565656 1px 1px 5px;[/newclass][newclass=.kicon img]margin:5px;border-radius:50%;overflow:hidden;border:0;[/newclass][newclass=.kicon]width:110px;margin:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.kcontent]font-family:tahoma;font-size:10px;color:#868686;padding:15px;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;[/newclass][newclass=.klink]width:300px;text-align:right;[/newclass][newclass=.ktitle]color:#bc486b;font-weight:bold;font-family:georgia;text-align:center;font-size:24px;border-bottom:#bc486b 1px solid;letter-spacing:-2px;width:250px;margin:auto;[/newclass][newclass=.kinfo]padding:5px;color:white;font-family:tahoma;background-color:#bc486b;font-size:10px;[/newclass][newclass=.kpage]display:inline-block;width:200px;color:white;text-align:right;[/newclass]

The redhead seem to be scrunitizing her closely and the albino tilted her head in response. As Lisabeth had mentioned her lack of offensive power, simply telling the girl to strike her would be an exercise of futility. The only thing she could brag about when it comes to her robustness was how she survived an old claymore trap but as Lisabeth herself was not there when it happened, she supposed it would take more than that to convince her. A slight shrug was the only thing she offered, if the girl wanted to use her magic to scan her she would definitely not be opposed.
When Audrey proposed to head inside the cave, the redhead suggested to take a more moderate pace. Not that she planned to run and gun through the whole thing but she was a bit curious when Lisabeth mention that. Perhaps it had something to do with her magic or perhaps she had yet to fully recover her stamina yet but wished to keep going.
"Yeah, no problem sheila."
The redhead then produced a torch which the albino took appreciatively. Sure, her senses were sharp being a dragon slayer and all but she would definitely not refuse to something that would aid her visually. Not to mention a torch can double as a weapon for desperate situation.
"Aye, that'd be helpful dear. Thanks~"
In exchange, Audrey would snap her finger to show her own brand of magic. Black sand would began to gather around them, accumulating to form an amorphous blob of metal that surrounded Lisabeth but still provided enough visual for her to use archive magic. Should Lisabeth scan the black sands she would find they were actually iron sand, composed heavily of magnetite. Should a threat come from an unexpected direction say from behind, the black sand would provide a temporary buffer between the threat and Lisabeth providing Audrey ample time to move herself into position. With Lisabeth acting as a navigator, she would nod and walk ahead of the duo first. She did inspect the entrance earlier herself and found no trap aside from the explosive claymore earlier but the redhead's word assured her even further.
"Copy that. Hey, think you can map the place out while you're at it? In case we run into dead ends."

Liz’ eyes drifted away from her screen. It was a brief action that had her two orbs lining up with the sand before quickly returning. Then after a brief pause they rose and looked again as if confirming she saw what she thought she saw. But this only caught her attention for the briefest of time again before she looked back at her screen.
It was not if she was not curious. The complete opposite. If she could she would have swiped and finger and pressed a few buttons to begin the process of analyzing the floating specks. That would not be possible though, not as she strived to continue her analysis of the dark cave.
The younger woman’s magic was not as impressive as some would say. The processing power of it was wanting. While she could scan anything she wanted, and use it to detect dangers, this all required time. This was why she wanted them to take this slow. It was also why she spent much of her time now watching the screen and tapping away at it every so often.
”I’ll.. I’ll try. Just.. Just give me a moment.” Her brows drooped as she said this. It was obvious this work was stressing her, but it was not as if there were other options. Truth be told, she did not know how her magic worked. If there was a way to speed it up, that was far beyond her limited understanding.
”Alright I’m getting something. It says.. Hm..” She bit her lower lip as she scanned the device. A line was being drawn in front of her, and careful inspection revealed that the lines did well to illustrate the positions of the walls to her sides and the two people in her party. But this line just barely moved faster than they were. She could not see a destination, but as the lines were drawn she began to see some examples of deadends.
”Up ahead. There is a fork. To the right it goes about ten feet and then it stops. Head to the left. The left.” To illustrate what she was saying she pointed with her right arm towards the left.
”This thing aint picking up on any traps, but don’t start thinking we’re safe.”
